Thisis an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic trainee to gain experience anddevelop clinical skills in Paediatric Allergy that could contribute to SPINcompetencies.

LeedsPaediatric Allergy service is one of the largest in the country currentlyproviding a secondary and tertiary allergy service to children of Leeds andYorkshire. The large multidisciplinary team includes four paediatric allergyconsultants, a specialty doctor, 5 allergy nurse specialists, 4 allergydietitians and clinical psychologist.The service supports children with IgE and non-IgE mediated foodallergy, allergic asthma, allergic rhinitis, atopic dermatitis, drug allergy,venom allergy, chronic spontaneous urticaria and complex multisystem allergicdisease. The service provides skin prick testing, intradermal testing, oralfood challenges, supervised feeds, allergen specific immunotherapy and systemictreatments for severe chronic spontaneous urticaria. Oral graded challenges arerun on designated Childrens Allergy Day Unit (CADU) facility five days a week.Whilst allergen specific immunotherapy is currently mainly offered for inhalantallergy, there are plans to imminently start offering oral immunotherapy forpeanut allergy.

Main duties of the job

Asa part of this exciting and unique role, successful post holder will havefollowing clinical responsibilities:

1. Attendance at regular paediatricallergy clinics and after a period of training, undertaking general paediatricallergy clinics with support of the supervising consultant.

2. Training in performing andinterpretation of diagnostic tests include skin prick testing, intradermaltesting, specific IgE blood testing, component resolved diagnostics.

3. Active supervised role in consultservice which involves seeing in-patient cases for all the sub-specialitieswithin the hospital

4. Routine role in supervision of day-caseprovocation challenges and immunotherapy

5. Regular attendance at weekly clinical/educationalmeetings

6. Attendance at departmental study days,as well as BSACI and BPAIIG study days

Thetrainee will also be expected to perform an audit and take an active role inthe review of current guidelines and the development of new guidelines. They will be encouraged to take an activerole in the departmental research programme and to present their work atregional, national and international meetings.

LeedsChildren's Hospital is offering Out Of Programme Pause (OOPP) positions in 7sub-speciality areas. OOPP positionsallow trainees to take a step out of formal training for one year and have anycompetencies gained whilst out of training assessed upon their return.

Experience

Thesuccessful applicant should be able to work at ST4-7 level or to be able todemonstrate equivalent level experience.

Thesuccessful applicant will have both inpatient and outpatient duties

Theywill need to be confident in the assessment of sick children

Theywill need experience of working in a multidisciplinary team and have excellentverbal and written communication skills

Theywill need to have a good understanding of research methodology and be able tosupervise and support clinical assessments as part of a research study. Theywill need to have, or be prepared to undertake, good clinical practice (GCP)training.
