About theRole

This is a laboratorybasedrole where you will be responsible for supporting the handling of30K samples every month.

The Sample Preparation(SP) team is responsible for the high throughput processing ofsamples to library preparation and sequencing on the Illuminaplatform by quality check and cherrypick of selectedsamples.

Working as part of a team you will beexpected to produce quality data within defined timeframes andassist with the everyday running of the laboratory. You will have astrong understanding of the team product portfolio and thescientific theory underpinning theprocesses.

The Sample Preparationteam performs:

  • Sampleregistration and selection followed by normalisation /cherrypicking/shearing to feed the library preparation teams (Covaris acousticsshearing Agilent Bravo Tecan Beckman Coulter i5 and SPT Mosquitoand Dragonfly liquid handling platforms)
  • Quality control of DNA /RNA on fluorescent system andTapeStation /qPCR aimed at readymade libraries.
  • DNA /RNA extraction from differing input materials andlabware on QiaSymphony QiaCube DragonFly or manually for smallerprojects.
  • Genotyping with the Fluidigmtechnology.
  • Working as part of a team you willbe expected to:
  • Plan organise and schedule ownworkload in line with priorities
  • Recognise andflag anomalies to senior staff
  • Maintainequipment to ensure it is fit for purpose and operating within setvalidation criteria
  • Help with the daytodayrunning of the laboratory and be active and keep track of your owntrainingrecords

Essentialskills

  • BSc in abiological Science or relevant experience.
  • Abasic and general understanding of molecular biology and associatedpractical techniques relevant to the role.
  • Computer literate: Microsoft Office programmes includingWord and Excel.
  • Excellent organisational andplanning skills in managing competing priorities in a busyenvironment.
  • A high level of interpersonal andcommunication skills.
  • Ability to followinstructions accurately and efficiently correctly interpret basicscientific data and work without supervision.
  • Understanding of Quality Management Systems SOPs and HSprocedures.
  • Be a champion for EqualityDiversity and Inclusion.
