An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Physiotherapist to join the Burns and Plastic Surgery team. You will be part of an established, friendly and highly motivated team of Physiotherapists working within multidisciplinary teams delivering rehabilitation across the speciality.

You will be responsible for assessing, treating and clinically managing patients with a range of conditions; creating the treatment program required to achieve a successful discharge.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for the provision of Physiotherapy in the acute and outpatient settings and an interest in respiratory Physiotherapy including intensive care.

Main duties of the job

Assess and treat own caseload of patients as an autonomous practitioner.

Maintains appropriate communications and associated records working as part of the multidisciplinary team.

Provides a high quality of treatment to all patients

Demonstrates a commitment to continued development of skills and knowledge through CPD, training and involvement in the rotation scheme.

Demonstrates ability to clinically supervise the practice of assistants.

The post will give the successful candidate an opportunity to experience all aspects of the speciality including managing burn injuries and splinting, inpatient ward work in the speciality of plastic surgery, ENT, facial palsy and head and neck cancer as well as managing both adult and children within the wider speciality.

Professional

Adheres to HCPC regulations and Physiotherapy professional code of conduct. Complies with documentation standards and is aware of importance of Data Protection Act and legal and clinical implications of record keeping. Is aware of and implements Trust and Departmental Policies and Procedures. Works as an autonomous Physiotherapist with appropriate guidance and supervision from senior members of staff. Has the ability to review personal competencies/practice through effective use of supervision and appraisal of self. Recognises own limitations and capabilities to ensure that patients receive the most specialist treatment and advice. This includes recognising limitations within own profession and boundaries between other professional roles and responsibilities. Understands the complaints procedure and the need for reporting and local resolution. Acts as an ambassador for the profession enabling pre-registration students to observe practice.

Communication

Communicates effectively through using written, verbal, non-verbal and listening skills. Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively with patients and carers to ensure understanding of the patients condition and compliance with the treatment plan to attain mutually agreed goals. Effective communication may require educating/explanation, persuasion, motivation, empathy and the ability to diffuse stressful situations. Communicates in a confident and assertive manner as part of the multi disciplinary team. Demonstrates an understanding of the social, psychological and emotional issues that may impact on patient care and compliance.

Clinical Duties

Undertakes comprehensive/ standardised Physiotherapy assessment of needs, plans, implements and evaluates the outcome of treatment of appropriate patients Jointly identifies Physiotherapy goals with the patients as part of the overall care plan, using therapeutic use of self and graded activity to achieve agreed goals. Ensure that Physiotherapy treatment is based on theoretical knowledge and clinical reasoning skills are used to justify intervention and support own practice in routine situations. Manages and accepts clinical responsibility for a caseload of patients, demonstrating ability to prioritise and delegate work to assistants when appropriate. Participates in evening on-call duties, assessing and treating critically ill patients. This work is un-supervised and acts at a Band 6 level. Delivers/ produces work to the established professional/directorate standards. Undertakes moving/handling tasks that require intense physical effort throughout the working day. Performs risk assessments and undertakes skilled therapeutic handling which requires strength and stamina. Demonstrates an understanding and aptitude towards email, word processing and the intranet/ Internet. Demonstrates CPD though participation in internal and external development opportunities, recording learning outcomes in portfolio. Demonstrates awareness of clinical audit, research and evidence based practice and their benefits, and participate where appropriate. Person Specification

Education and qualifications

Essential

HCPC registered physiotherapist or pre-registration student BSc or MSc in Physiotherapy

Desirable

Member of Special Interest Group Evidence on ongoing CPD and attendance on courses

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

Evidence of broad range of clinical experience at undergraduate level, working within the MDT Able to present information, written and verbal, in a clear and logical manner Ability to organise, prioritise and delegate
