An exceptional opportunity has emerged for a Rehabilitation Specialist to become a vital member of the Burns and Plastic Surgery team. You will collaborate with a well-established, supportive, and highly motivated group of professionals, working within multidisciplinary teams to provide rehabilitation services across this specialty.
Your responsibilities will include evaluating, treating, and managing patients with diverse conditions, while designing tailored treatment plans aimed at facilitating successful patient outcomes.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to delivering high-quality rehabilitation services in both acute and outpatient environments, with a particular interest in respiratory rehabilitation, including intensive care.

Main Responsibilities
- Conduct assessments and provide treatment for your own patient caseload as an independent practitioner.
- Maintain effective communication and accurate records while collaborating within the multidisciplinary team.
- Deliver high-quality treatment to all patients.
- Commit to ongoing professional development through CPD, training, and participation in rotation schemes.
- Supervise the practice of assistants effectively.
This role offers the successful candidate a chance to engage with all facets of the specialty, including managing burn injuries, splinting, inpatient care in plastic surgery, ENT, facial palsy, and head and neck cancer, as well as working with both adult and pediatric patients within the broader specialty.

Professional Duties
- Adhere to HCPC regulations and the professional code of conduct for rehabilitation specialists.
- Ensure compliance with documentation standards, understanding the significance of the Data Protection Act and the legal implications of record-keeping.
- Implement Trust and Departmental Policies and Procedures effectively.
- Function as an autonomous Rehabilitation Specialist with appropriate guidance from senior staff.
- Regularly review personal competencies and practices through effective supervision and self-appraisal.
- Recognize personal limitations to ensure patients receive the most specialized treatment and advice.
- Understand the complaints procedure and the importance of reporting and local resolution.
- Act as an ambassador for the profession, facilitating observation opportunities for pre-registration students.
Communication Skills
- Utilize effective written, verbal, non-verbal, and listening skills for communication.
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with patients and caregivers to ensure understanding of conditions and compliance with treatment plans.
- Exhibit confidence and assertiveness as part of the multidisciplinary team.
- Understand the social, psychological, and emotional factors that may affect patient care and compliance.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive and standardized assessments of patient needs, planning, implementing, and evaluating treatment outcomes.
- Collaboratively set rehabilitation goals with patients as part of the overall care plan.
- Ensure treatment is grounded in theoretical knowledge and clinical reasoning.
- Manage and take clinical responsibility for a patient caseload, demonstrating prioritization and delegation skills.
- Participate in on-call duties, assessing and treating critically ill patients independently.
- Deliver work that meets established professional and directorate standards.
- Perform moving and handling tasks requiring significant physical effort.
- Conduct risk assessments and engage in skilled therapeutic handling that demands strength and stamina.
- Demonstrate proficiency in email, word processing, and internet usage.
- Engage in continuous professional development through internal and external opportunities, documenting learning outcomes.
- Participate in clinical audits, research, and evidence-based practice as appropriate.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- HCPC registered rehabilitation specialist or pre-registration student.
- BSc or MSc in Rehabilitation Sciences.
Desirable:
- Membership in a Special Interest Group.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development and course attendance.
Knowledge & Experience
Essential:
- Demonstrated broad clinical experience at the undergraduate level, working within multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to present information clearly and logically, both in writing and verbally.
- Capacity to organize, prioritize, and delegate tasks effectively.
Desirable:
- Competent IT skills.
- Experience supervising other staff, assistants, or technical instructors.
- Previous experience as a Therapy Assistant.
