We are delighted to advertise a full-time ( Specialist Dietitian (Band 6) post. You would join our friendly Renal Dietetic Team, which has a great skill mix.

We will support you to develop the knowledge and the skills required to provide dietetics care to patients with acute and chronic kidney disease and will work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to provide patient-centred care. The Leeds Renal Service is a sub-regional transplant centre and provides care and service across West Yorkshire. Being a car driver would be an advantage for this post.

Main duties of the job

You will provide specialist nutritionalassessment and advice, on nutrition support, therapeutic diets, and fluidmanagement to patients with acute kidney injury and chronic kidney diseasestages 3 - 5, including patients requiring renal replacement therapy and with arenal transplant. There will be opportunities to work in both the inpatient andoutpatient setting (face-to-face and telephone clinics), to attend MDT meetingsand wards rounds, advocating for patients and escalating nutritional concerns.

You will be actively involved in thedepartments clinical governance agenda, ensuring quality is achieved andmaintained, with opportunities to participate in the audit of patient carepractices, departmental task and finish groups, and to take on additional responsibilitiessuch as champion roles and supervision roles of our support staff and learners.The is a band 6 professional development group, allows you to work on projectsacross specialities and with the wider department.

Job responsibilities

To provide part of a professional Nutrition and Dietetic care service within a

Specialist area. This includes advice to in-patients, out-patients, all healthcare staff and participation in the training of student dietitians. Shows initiative in assisting and supporting the senior specialist dietitians and the Clinical Dietetic Manager in the day to day management of the department.

The post holder will:

* Manage own case load to a level agreed with supervisor/line manager.

* Be involved in the provision of education and training to healthcare staff, patients, care providers and students.

* Be a key member of the multidisciplinary care team to provide integrated dietetic care.

* Shows initiative in assisting and supporting the senior specialist dietitians and the chief dietitian in the day to day management of the department.

* Deliver training to healthcare staff, dietitians and students.

* Be an active member of the out of hours service.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

Knowledge of current issues in Nutrition and Dietetics. Demonstrate awareness of specialist dietetic areas. Understanding of clinical governance, risk assessment and continuing quality improvement. Able to work in a team, demonstrating time management skills and initiative. Self-motivated and able to motivate staff and patients. Committed to personal and professional development.

Skills & Behaviours

Essential

Good written and oral communication skills. Good interpersonal skills. Basic computer key board skills. Experience of delivering education and training.

Qualifications

Essential

BSc(Hons) Nutrition & Dietetics or Equivalent Experience of working as a Dietitian within a healthcare setting. HCPC registration. Attendance on relevant specialist accredited post-graduate courses at post-graduate diploma level or equivalent

Able to fulfil Occupational Health requirements for the post (with reasonable adjustments if necessary), including clearance on blood borne viruses in compliance with Trust Policy
