Are you an enthusiastic, compassionate and patient-centred Dietitian with a desire to support children and families within these specialist areas? Come and join our Children’s Dietetic Team We are currently 29 full and part time children’s Dietitians, providing a wide range of secondary and tertiary care, and supra-regional services based at the Leeds Children’s Hospital. We are part of the wider Nutrition and Dietetic Service in Leeds Teaching Hospitals.

In this post, you will be a core and valued member of the multidisciplinary Children’s Oncology, Haematology & Stem Cell Transplant team. You will be working closely with consultants, medical teams, nursing teams, pharmacists, psychologists, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, social workers and dietetic assistants. With support from the band 7, you will provide a proactive and coordinated nutrition and dietetic service to both in and out patients and support the transition to home through liaison with health professionals in the community.

We are a regional centre for children’s and adolescent oncology, haematology and stem cell transplant, covering the North and West Yorkshire and Humberside. Our service includes the children’s ward, the Teenage Cancer Trust ward, the stem cell transplant unit and day care unit. We also liaise with our radiotherapy colleagues at St James’ Hospital. We provide a service for children of all ages, from babies to teenagers/young adults, and see children with different types of childhood cancers and non-malignant haematology conditions. We also work with other children’s Dietitians in the general district hospitals and are members of the national paediatric oncology dietitians’ interest group (PODIG).

For this post you must have excellent communication skills and an understanding and strong commitment to multidisciplinary team working. You will need to demonstrate insight into the challenges of managing infants, children and young people with complex conditions.

Experience in children’s Dietetics is desired but not essential as training and support can be provided to develop your specialist knowledge and skills.

You will be expected to provide cover for colleagues within the multi-specialty Children’s dietetic team at times of annual leave or sickness. We will support you with appropriate training opportunities to facilitate this.

You will be fully involved in student training, contributing to the provision of training programmes for A, B and C placement learners.

Our team has excellent support from four dietetic assistants and the admin team. You will have access to IT and library facilities.

You may be required to undertake a DBS. The Trust will administer the check on your behalf & will recover the cost (Enhanced £48 or Standard £30) from your salary over a 3 month period (including Internal staff). You will also be required to participate in the DBS Update Service & pay the £13 cost per year. This is a condition of your employment. DBS checks for volunteers are free.
