Job summary

We are looking for a talented and passionate individual who wants to grow and develop their skills within our exciting and challenging theatre department. This opportunity is for a Band 5 or 6 who is enthusiastic, talented, and a passionate practitioner who shares our trust values and strives to deliver high standards of care and looking to take the next step in their career path as Theatre Team Leader.

All applicants must demonstrate within their application a strong commitment to teaching and desire to develop and progress their career within our cardiac theatres at the university hospital of Birmingham.

Knowledge and experience of Cardiac Anaesthesia and scrub would be desirable but not limited to. You will have the opportunity to develop in both scrub and anaesthetics within our busy department. Successful applicants will work across our three Cardiac theatres and contribute to providing a 24-hour service, this will include on calls and weekend work. You will also have the exciting opportunity to be part of our Transplantation and retrieval service, which is a part of NSHBT. We are the largest solid organ transplant hospital in the UK and pride ourselves in building healthier lives for our community.

Main duties of the job

Our Trust has excellent opportunities for a Band 6 Team Leader to develop, enhance, consolidate, and excel their Theatre Skills, in Anaesthetic and Scrub.

All applicants are required to work a range of shifts including on calls, weekends, long days, and bank holidays.

Essential

*NMC Registered Nurse / HCPC Registered Operating Department Practitioner *Knowledge of a broad range of theatre procedures and instrumentation/ processes equivalent to post graduate level acquired through Diploma / Degree plus experience and further study or qualification or an equivalent level of knowledge associated with the practice setting

Desirable

*Health care leadership / management qualification

*Recent experience within theatres working as a registered practitioner in an acute practice setting involving the supervision / education of junior staff *Can demonstrate depth and breadth of experience of working in at least 2 areas of peri operative practice ( anaesthetics , scrub or recovery ), and in different specialties including elective and emergency practice settings *Professional portfolio which demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration *Evidence of effective multi-professional working *Experienced mentor / assessor / student supervisor *Experience of supporting the implementation change including new procedures/ processes *Evidence of the ability to confidently lead / coordinate a shift / area of the department *Evidence of the ability to organise others and forward plan and review/ adjust staff rotas *Experienced learning from incidents /complaints and supporting changes in practice *Wide knowledge of a range or pre and post-operative care, ability to plan and organise duties / service requirements associated with physical and human resources , ability to allocate tasks / duties to a range of staff *Can demonstrate an understanding of human resource management associated with codes of practice / professional and Trust guidelines *Can demonstrate understanding of how to review/ plan staff rotas in accordance with Trust guidance / service need and mitigate workforce risks associated with staff deployment *Demonstrates ability , passion and knowledge of the following *Leadership *Team building / team work *Physical / Human Resource management *Change management *Clinical Governance / Patient Safety *Can demonstrate knowledge in relation to immediate incident management involving staff/ patients and the practice setting
