Who we’re looking for

At Apron, our mission is to flip payments from painful to powerful, helping SMBs to grow and thrive. We’re looking for a hands-on engineering leader to oversee the entire engineering team at Apron, currently around 20 engineers. 

We need someone with the knowledge and experience to steer a team of highly talented engineers to deliver against our ambitious roadmap. No two days will be the same; from setting up the optimal team structure, to defining career growth tracks and owning performance management through to jumping in to solve the most complex technical challenges. 

What you’ll be doing
  • Managing our entire engineering team
  • You will have full ownership of ensuring our tech platform is world class
  • Defining and executing on our engineering philosophy
  • Rolling up your sleeves to code when needed to help solve some of the most critical technical challenges across the company
  • Helping to define the engineering teams career tracks and levelling structures, to ensure there are clear growth paths for our fantastic team
  • Setting and maintaining a high bar for quality and execution

Requirements

  • An engineering lead with 5+ years of experience in engineering leadership roles at world class technology companies
  • Well versed in system architecture, owning the strategic direction and defining processes and structures to enable us to meet our business goals 
  • The combination of an enterprise toolkit with a startup mindset; you’re a thinker and a doer. You have retained strong execution skills and can lead by example
  • Someone with experience leading engineering teams in larger organisations. There’s a lot of work to do, so you’ll want to be someone that thrives in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment
  • Strategic direction, architecture, processes, our most complex services are all things you’ll be developing. But you’ll love executing them just as much. Because you understand how to get these things done, you can build your org to support those functions
  • Experienced in hiring and retaining the best engineering talent
