Role Purpose

The key responsibilities of the Investment Manager role are making effective recommendations on existing investments, recommending new companies to invest in, and supporting and challenging the recommendations of others in the team. In addition to this, other responsibilities include client-related work, mentoring junior colleagues, collaborating with other departments in the firm and certain other strategic projects.

This opportunity is for people with experience of analysing companies, professionally, for several years.

Applicants will be able to demonstrate the results of successful analysis using their qualitative and quantitative skills. They will have an enquiring mind and be able to effectively balance realism and optimism, conviction and humility to form and communicate considered recommendations.

We believe our investment team is greater than the sum of its parts so a proactive approach to collaborative work is essential. 
 

Key Responsibilities

Contributing to investment performance

Managing existing holdings, including:
• Researching, monitoring, analysing and valuing existing holdings, including integration of material sustainability factors;
• Stewarding those holdings (voting and engagement) and making investment recommendations based on that research; and
• Complying with procedures for formally reviewing those positions. New idea generation:
• Researching companies that we do not currently invest in, including integration of material sustainability factors;
• Making purchase proposals to colleagues; and
• Successfully convincing said colleagues to purchase some of those ideas in portfolios. Participating in the firm’s broader investment conversation positively and constructively including asking questions, offering insights, opinions and recommendations on stocks and portfolios that the Investment Manager is not necessarily directly responsible for. Developing junior investment colleagues interviewing and mentoring Investment Analysts and Interns, and working with junior members of the team to improve their contributions. Championing investment strategies and strategic Research/investment initiatives.

All of these activities should contribute to clients’ absolute and relative performance streams or underwrite future investment results.

Further Responsibilities  

Broader initiatives to serve clients

Participation in initiatives championed by a colleague outside of the Research Department. Collaboration with colleagues to achieve the best results for clients. Examples include Client Service and Business Development requirements ( producing written materials, attending and leading meetings, giving presentations, etc.) Participation in cross-firm projects not directly related to clients.

Aspects of an Investment Manager’s role may require significant international travel.

Skills & Experience

Minimum of years’ experience in a similar role Strong skills in the fundamental analysis of companies Good presentation skills High proficiency with Excel and Bloomberg

Academic/Professional Qualifications (or equivalent)

Investment Management Certificate (IMC) preferred, or completed within months of joining .
