Exciting Opportunity for an Occupational Therapist on Holford Ward

Are you passionate about making a difference in patients' lives? We are looking for a dedicated Occupational Therapist to join our Occupational Therapy service on Holford Ward. You will receive clinical supervision from a Band 7 Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist, ensuring you have the support and guidance needed to excel in your role.

As a crucial member of our dynamic inpatient multi-disciplinary team, you will work within a recovery-focused service, providing assessment and treatment in Holford Ward and in the community and home settings when appropriate.

You'll assess, plan, and organise OT interventions for each patient. Each patient will be encouraged to take an active role in the planning of their care to promote their independence and responsibility, patients are encouraged to take part in a wide range of therapeutic groups run by the OT, ward staff and visiting professionals.

Holford ward aims to provide expert supportive and individualised care provided under the ethos and principles of relational security and recovery, which promotes personal safety, social inclusion and works in partnership with service users, their families, and carers.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities

Deliver Exceptional Care: Provide a high standard of Occupational Therapy to patients on Holford Ward, ensuring their well-being and recovery. Drive Innovation: Participate in the ongoing development of the PICU within Somerset Foundation Trust. Attend management meetings and offer consultation and mentorship to junior peers, contributing to continuous improvement and excellence. Work Independently: Operate without direct supervision, benefiting from managerial and professional guidance, regular training, clinical reasoning sessions, and peer reviews. Access support and advice from senior staff and therapists across the organisation. Lead and Mentor: Supervise, support, guide, and train fellow Occupational Therapists, Activity Organisers, apprentices, students, and other members of the multi-disciplinary team. Comprehensive Patient Care: Perform detailed assessments, diagnoses, and treatments for patients with diverse and complex physical and psychological conditions. Develop and deliver personalised treatment programmes tailored to each patient's needs. Manage Caseload: Take full responsibility for your own caseload, managing all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.

Job responsibilities

To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of patients in your care. To ensure a high standard of clinical care for the patients under your management and support junior colleagues and support staff/assistants to do likewise. Formulate and deliver an individual Occupational Therapy treatment programme in accordance with the goals of the patient, their carers and multidisciplinary team. To do this based on a sound knowledge of evidence-based practice and treatment options using clinical assessment, reasoning skills and a broad knowledge and understanding. To evaluate patient progress, reassess and alter treatment programmes if required. To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients, and to organise this effectively and efficiently regarding clinical priorities and use of time. To carry out assessment and treatments of a range of conditions which may involve physical disabilities/injuries. To be responsible daily for the allocation of clinical work to the Activity Organisers. To risk assess and undertake therapeutic moving and handling techniques with and if required on the ward. This will take place in awkward and confined spaces on the hospital ward and may include moving and handling equipment, wheelchairs, and specialist therapeutic equipment. To represent Occupational Therapy and Holford ward and/or individual patients at multi-disciplinary team meetings and case conferences, ensuring the delivery of a co-ordinated multidisciplinary service. To have an understanding of the broad principles of the Recovery Approach and to incorporate this into all occupations of the post holders work, being holistic, promoting social inclusion, self-management, personal autonomy and independence.
