Our first and key value is to be inclusive. Since the 1970s our Students in Secure Environments (SiSE) programme has spread to over 150 prisons, 50 secure hospital units and supported countless students in realising what they are capable of. Every year we provide a tailor-made curriculum, create bespoke study packs, and offer personalised support to our Students in Secure Environments. Working with partner organisations within the Justice Sector, we have created a Virtual Learning Environment, accessible via the Virtual Campus, to allow students to access their materials in digital format.

The role  

You will work within the Students in Secure Environments (SiSE) team, within Student Additional Support, with a focus on helping students with a wide range of restrictions resulting from a criminal conviction, including those which resulted in a custodial sentence, or following their release from prison (e.g. they a have sexual harm prevention order served against them or are on the sex offenders register) to make study choices leading to successful progression, qualification completion and customer satisfaction.

A focus of your role will be to establish and maintain processes for supporting students with restrictions and provide proactive educational support through provision of guidance and complex educational support to enquirers

Skills and experience

This role will suit you if you have;

Significant experience of providing IAG to a range of diverse groups, including students in prison or with restrictions. Knowledge of and commitment to equal opportunities and diversity. Experience of working to personal, team and organisational targets. Advice and guidance skills developed to support students’ autonomy and decision making, especially taking into account the court imposed restrictions, using techniques in negotiating, enabling, advocating and challenging.
