The Medical Division is looking to appoint a Practice Education Facilitator within the Acute Chemotherapy Unit to work as a part of the Division 2 PEF team.

Main duties of the job

To support staff within the Oncology & Haemotology areas andmedical division to ensure they have the most advanced knowledge and skills to enable them to deliver a high standard of evidence-based care

To support new staff through their induction and to assist them with their training and development needs to ensure competence in assisting procedures, carrying out assessments, familiarisation with admission/discharge processes and delivery of safe, pre and post operative care.

Other duties :

- Organise and implement practice-based education for staff nurses in the department.- Provide support and guidance on professional development opportunities for staff.- Ensure implementation of quality measures and compliance with regulatory standards.- Work collaboratively with specialists to develop and foster a culture of education and learning.

Prior experience working within chemotherapy is desirable. Support will be available for the successful candidate.

Job responsibilities

To work within the clinical environment. Supporting and reinforcing the values and standards of compassion and respect in care, demonstrating analysis and decision-making skills Supporting in the delivery of educational sessions to qualified nurses, providing a clinically and educationally excellent, high-quality service that willinfluence and facilitate change within the organisation.

Ensure a high standard of care and record-keeping in accordance with Nursing and Midwifery Council, Health and Care Professions Council, national legislation and local standards.

To promote learning within the clinical environment

To work with other departments within the Division to facilitate learning to support service developments and to support staff in practice who are subject to capability/competence processes.

Demonstrate a specialist level of knowledge, skill and understanding of clinical practice standards within the Trust acting as a resource and role model to colleagues.

Support staff with specialist advice in relation to practice education.

Work alongside clinical staff, promoting best practice, providing support and education, facilitating a learning environment and developing staff to meet local requirements.

When delivering training sessions and supporting staff clinically, promote that all staff are aware of and adhere to all relevant Trust policies and procedures as part of educational activity,

Participate in supporting a culture of protecting patients from harm and deprivation of basic rights ensuring a safe and effective service with continuous quality improvement.

Contribute to managing changes and improvement through the use of audit, staff/student feedback and reflection on practice by self and other members of the team.

Promote a clean and safe environment by ensuring compliance with legislation, policies and protocols including health and safety, healthcare-associated infection prevention, clinical governance, including risk management and critical incident reporting and root cause analysis.

Participate in the promotion of a high standard of fundamental care and record-keeping in accordance with Nursing and Midwifery Council, Health Professions Council, national legislation and local standards.

To support staff development when standards fall below expected levels

Report incidents and near misses promptly and appropriately

Critically appraise and synthesise the outcomes of relevant research, evaluations and audits and apply the information when seeking to improve practice

To enhance the patient's experience

Within an educational environment, promote a culture of person-centered care.

Ensure that everyone within the sphere of care is treated with dignity and humanity, understanding individual needs, showing compassion and sensitivity, and provide care in a way that respects all people equally.

Participate with communication networks within and external to the team

Promote a learning environment conducive for all staff, supporting staff in induction.

Support the Senior Sister/Charge nurse in the identification and development of educational programmes and staff development strategies.

Deliver clinical education presentations to large and small groups. Contribute to the design and the delivery of informal and formal teaching programmes.

Support the learning and development and assessment of all staff including supporting staff to achieve competence and Revalidation

Participate in the recruitment and selection, process.

Support the overseas recruitment process

To ensure effective contribution to the delivery of the organisations objectives

Network with peers across professional groups and clinical disciplines promoting the exchange of knowledge, skills and resources.

Act up in the absence of the designated person in charge

Attend professional forums and disseminate information

Maintain comprehensive training records for staff and provide reports as required.

Support the Senior Sister/Charge nurse with an innovative and proactive approach to the redesign of educational services, linked to organisational priorities and in support of improved outcomes

Seek opportunities for personal development supporting the research agenda of the organisation

Maintain a working knowledge of local, national and professional strategy and policy, and the educational agenda.
