Job overview

We are looking for a highly motivated Nurse Manager who is hard working, confident, competent, self-motivated, and able to adapt to different situations in a very busy unit. The person must have a flexible approach to working to meet the needs of the service users, in order to provide specialist care across the borough. We are looking to recruit somebody to work 37.5 hours per week, working Monday to Friday with Occasional Saturday working for additional lists (if required).

Applicants must hold the National Examination in Dental Nursing or NVQ level 3 in Oral Healthcare and a recognised Dental Nursing post qualification. The person must also be registered with the General Dental Council and be committed and up to date with their professional development. A requirement of 5 GCSE’s (A-C) is essential along with good IT skills. Knowledge of the clinical governance and infection control framework is essential along with an understanding of the current guidance within the hospital in relation to Covid 19. Good communication skills and the ability to work individually or as part of a team are important

The role of a Maxillo Facial Nurse Manager is able to understand all aspects of Maxillo Facial including Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, Trauma and the Management of Cancer patients. There is a clinical role along with responsibilities for Co-ordinating patient care, financial responsibilities, patient safety and management of an existing workforce. The Maxillo Facial Unit is a recognised Training Centre with the National Examination Board for Dental Nurse students

This vacancy is open to all internal candidates. Employees should ideally secure their manager’s agreement for a secondment arrangement ideally prior to applying, as this will be a condition of any offer made. This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term basis as it has been established to provide cover for 4 months or when the substantive post holder returns. Whilst this post is advertised on an acting / secondment basis there is the potential that this post may become permanent in the future.

Main duties of the job

Managing a nursing team in an outpatient Maxillofacial Unit based in an acute hospital site . Patients seen are planned and emergency . Specialism covers orthodontist treatments and surgical dental treatments and head and neck cancers. We require a hard working nurse who is confident , competent , self motivated and able to adapt to different situations . The person must have a flexible approach to working to meet the needs of the service users , in order to provide specialist care across the unit

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The practitioner should be an expert in the assessment, planning and implementation of all areas of maxillofacial nurse care from admission to discharge. Leading the management of all nursing staff within the Maxillo-Facial Unit Day to day running of the unit including networking with other specialities to provide support and best practice. Responsible for all aspects of clinical governance within the department according to Trust policies and procedures maintaining associated records To be responsible for the training, supervision and specialised advice for hospital staff involved in the provision of mouth care. Training and support needs will be modified according to the ward patient base, for example intensive care, coronary care, care of the elderly, surgical and palliative etc. To undertake clinical nursing practise working alongside students, oral health practitioner; provides advice to other dental staff, other healthcare professionals. Providing supervision, teaching and assessment of competences. To promote positive learning environments within the organisation that ensures the delivery of evidence-based practice Effectively contribute to both clinical and management of skills through knowledge gained within the Maxillo facial speciality.

National Certificate in Dental Nursing Evidence of continued professional development Degree level studies or equivalent portfolio of evidence Post qualification certificate in dental radiography Post qualification certificate in Concsious Sedations Evidence of clinical skills training/competencies

Formal Teaching and asesessing course (Coaching or mentoring qualification) Management/Leadership qualification
