Job summary

Towork with our Carer Engagement Co-ordinator on a range of opportunitiesincluding supporting Family members visiting for the first time, events,workshops and other support for families and friends.

Langdon Hospital is near Dawlish, and is home toDevon Partnership NHS Trusts Secure Services. The Dewnans Centre has 4 MediumSecure Wards. Chichester House is a LowSecure Ward.

Wesupport men from the South West area of England who, as a consequence of theirmental health needs, have sometimes had contact with the legal system and/orrequire a safe and secure environment that enables them to receive a wide rangeof treatments, therapies and care to assist in their recovery.

Ourethos is to work TOGETHER and involve our patients, staff and carers in servicedevelopment and improvement.

An informal visitfrom any interested candidate, would be well received and accommodated at amutually convenient time.

Main duties of the job

Youwill be volunteering alongside and with the support of the Patient and CarerEngagement Lead to complement the overall support offered to families by SecureServices.

Job responsibilities

At times you will be asked to provide a friendly welcome to family and friends visiting hospital, usually for the first time. It would be helpful to have a knowledge about site specific amenities - toilets, changing places, cafes, shops, places of worship and specific departments and services on site. An induction will be provided to support you with this.

At times you may be asked to offer 1:1 support to individual family and friends via the telephone or face to face.

You will support with planning and organising events, workshops and other activities for families and friends.

Support with administrative tasks such as promoting events and activities, and developing the Families and Friends Information Pack and Newsletters.

Support with gathering feedback from Family members through surveys.

You will be able to share personal experience where it is helpful in the support of families and friends.

We will welcome your ideas as we work together to develop the role.

Essential

- We welcome your personal experience of being a carer or other lived experience of using services. - You will need to have good interpersonal and communication skills and a genuine interest in working with people as you will be required to interact with a wide range of people offering reassurance and understanding. - You will have a positive outlook. - You will value each person as an individual, respect their aspirations and commitments in life, and seek to understand their priorities, needs, abilities and limits. -You will take what others have to say seriously. You will have the skills to be honest about what you can and cannot do. Respect for confidentiality is essential and we need our volunteers to be discreet and reliable. -You will have the skills to manage professional boundaries. Training will be provided. -You will be someone who can work within a team and feel comfortable to seek further information and support from the Patient and Carer Engagement Lead if required.
