We welcome you to apply for a range of diagnostic practitioner and support worker positions for our new CDC at Southlands. You will be invited to a welcome session, when we will tell you more about our Trust, the CDC programme, you will meet leaders from the different services and you will be interviewed on the day. 

We at University Hospital Sussex have lots of opportunity for you. 2023 saw us open phase 1 of our CDC hub at Southlands, with brand-new Radiology facilities. In Autumn 2024, we are excited to open phase 2 of this project. This will provide diagnostic pathways including echocardiography, lung function testing, ultrasound and gynaecological treatments. We are now recruiting our staff for this purpose built unit, which will provide amazing educational opportunities for staff to grow and develop in their careers.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Generally assisting in the care of patients, including explaining procedures, changing requirements, helping and escorting patients or relatives as necessary. To safely transfer patients to the CDC from other areas of the Hospital and to safely transfer them back. Transfer will involve using beds, trolleys, wheelchairs or on foot.  Preparing the examination rooms before procedures. To chaperone and support patients in the department to ensure their comfort and safety. To carry out appropriate patient observations and procedures under supervision and with relevant training. To act upon instructions given to help provide a safe, clean and comfortable environment. Maintain a high standard of cleanliness in compliance with the Trusts infection policy. Accurately check patients identity before examinations. To treat patients with empathy and respect at all times. To restock departmental areas as required reporting any shortages to the Supervisor. To take part in meeting the needs of the patients under the supervision of a qualified health professional and working within the Trust’s policies, procedures and the philosophy of the department. To work collaboratively to provide a high standard of patient care. Prepare patients for CT and MRI scans by insertion of an intravenous cannula and administration of a saline flush (after appropriate training and supervision). Laying up sterile trolleys for procedures. Scrubbing to assist during sterile procedures. Preparing cytology slides. Administrative Reception of patients and preparation of appropriate paperwork for patient examinations. Competently use computer systems to accurately register patients on the Radiology Information System (CRIS), healthcare records and room logs ensuring all data entered is accurate and correct. Obtain previous notes if required. Deal with enquires of the patients or their relatives in a helpful and friendly manner and record messages accurately for later action. Answer telephone enquiries in a helpful and friendly manner taking relevant effective action. Ensure patient and staff confidentiality at all times.
