DescriptionAs Head of Engineering at Tillo you'll lead and manage the product engineering team, overseeing daily operations, executing the prioritised product roadmap, and advancing business objectives. Your contributions will be instrumental in driving Tillo's growth and success

We're looking for an innovative individual who will work in close collaboration with the CTO to align engineering efforts with company goals and drive continuous improvement. 
We’re the market leader in the UK and are active in a number of other markets including Europe, Australia and India. This year we will continue to expand our presence in the US as well as setting up operations in new countries
If successful, you will
  • Be a team builder, you will be at the forefront of leading engineering managers and teams. Your role will foster a collaborative culture and drive continuous improvement.
  • Promote operational excellence. You will oversee planning and execution, balance quality with speed, and manage KPIs. You will also be responsible for implementing effective engineering processes, technologies, and policies for sustainable growth.
  • Lead on strategic alignment, collaborating closely with the CTO on engineering strategy. Together, you will translate objectives into actionable plans, ensuring that our engineering efforts align with Tillo's overarching goals.
  • Provide technical oversight, offering guidance, staying current with industry trends, and ensuring best practices in architecture and technical direction.
  • Effectively allocate resources, managing budgets, and developing top engineering talent.
  • Be a Tillo representative, at industry events helping to grow our brand within the community.
  • Collaborate, forging strong relationships with business counterparts, understanding their needs, and sharing ownership of outcomes.
  • Educate, you'll share your expertise to educate and up-skill stakeholders and fellow engineering leaders.

About youYou're a proven leader, with significant experience managing a cross-functional, scaling engineering department and attracting top talent. You've got a strong product mindset and customer understanding.

You've built a culture of speed and urgency in a scale-up: You know how to achieve pace without compromising quality and implement the right processes. You don't shy away from tough conversations: You challenge your team and make difficult decisions when necessary. 

While valuing your teams' and stakeholders' input, you understand consensus is only sometimes possible. You weigh various factors, consider different perspectives, and make decisions that benefit the customer, company, and team.
You'll also have:
  • Strong domain experience in API-first businesses or well-scaled software companies
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to motivate teams
  • Proficiency in PHP and Laravel; Python is a bonus
  • Excellent knowledge of OWASP Top 10 and secure development principles
