Job title Maintenance Technician (Bank)

Directorate Millie College (Flexible working across sites is desirable)

Reports to Maintenance Lead

Hours 8.30am 4.30pm shift (Bank hours offered on a casual basis to support the college and site needs)

Starting salary £12.00 per hour

Purpose of the Job

To assist with the maintenance of the buildings and equipment to ensure the smooth and effective running of the College and the wider site.

Main Duties

  • To support the Maintenance Team in the maintenance and repair of all buildings, fixtures and fittings. This will include maintenance of electrical, heating, plumbing and alarm systems.
  • To support the general running of the site including moving furniture and equipment, cleaning drains and guttering etc. ensuring site safety for all users at all times.
  • To support in the opening and locking up of buildings as directed by the Maintenance Lead. (May require early start / late finish rota)
  • To share the responsibility for all maintenance checks to ensure site compliance.
  • To advise the Maintenance Lead on any ordering requirements and support in managing the stock and equipment needed to maintain the H&S of the site. This may include regular inventory checks.
  • To be prepared to learn and improve skills relevant to the post, through in house training and/or external courses (i.e. working at height, pool management, PAT testing).
  • To complete all required online training within the set timescales of probation and review periods.
  • To comply with all relevant Health and Safety procedures on site.
  • To be prepared to work out of hours and at weekends if necessary.
  • To be prepared to work at other local sites.
  • To agree to work to all existing and future Livability / School policies.
  • To maintain the Christian aims of Livability.


Working Relationships:

Internal- All staff across the College.

External- Local tradesmen, test and service centres, any other relevant external Organisations as deemed relevant to the post.

Person Specification

Essential Experience

Qualifications:

  • Proven literacy and IT skills for maintaining accurate records and completing online training. Willing to undergo further training and improve own skills deemed relevant to the post.
  • Valid and full, clean driving licence

Knowledge:

  • General awareness and ability to understand and apply regulations (such as health & safety, manual handling regulations etc.)
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of general maintenance processes.

Experience:

  • Hands on experience in maintenance of buildings.
  • Working knowledge of safety issues/procedures.
  • Good DIY skills.

Technical/Work based skills:

  • Able to operate electrical/hand tools /equipment.
  • Able to clear drain blockages.
  • Able to carry out practical landscaping tasks.

General Skills and Attributes:

  • Good team player, flexible in working arrangements ability to support maintenance issues at short notice if the need arises.
  • Able to show initiative and work proactively to ensure the smooth running of service provided at all times.
  • Punctual and reliable to support ‘on call’ rota if and when required.
  • Calm and patient when under pressure.
  • Commitment to the safeguarding of children and young people.
  • Ability to build and maintain successful relationships with students and staff treating them consistently, and with respect.
  • Ability to maintain and respect confidentiality issues.
  • Committed to students and their rights to independence, choice, dignity and self-respect.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all colleagues and carry out the role effectively, knowing when to seek help and advice and when to report issues.




Desirable Experience

Qualifications:

  • Pat testing qualification
  • Basic carpentry skills
  • Basic plumbing skills
  • Working at height cert.

  • Skilled trade/building work
