Behaviour Mentor – Chorlton

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behaviour Mentor to join an Ofsted-rated 'Good' secondary school in Chorlton. This full-time position begins in October and continues until the end of the academic year, with the potential for the role to become permanent based on performance. The role offers a competitive weekly pay of £419.25 to £500.

Role Overview:

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will play a crucial role in supporting students who face challenges in managing their behavior within the school environment. Your work will involve guiding these students to develop positive behaviors, enhance their emotional regulation, and engage more fully in their education. You will work closely with the school's pastoral team, teachers, and external agencies to provide comprehensive support to students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Individual Student Support: Provide one-on-one mentoring to students who are struggling with behavioral issues. You will help them understand the impact of their behavior, set goals for improvement, and develop strategies for managing their emotions and actions.

  • Behavioral Interventions: Implement and monitor individualized behavior plans tailored to each student's needs. You will work with students to help them achieve their behavioral targets and make positive changes.

  • Classroom Support: Assist in classrooms by helping to maintain a positive learning environment. This may include supporting students during lessons, managing disruptions, and helping teachers implement behavior management strategies.

  • Small Group Sessions: Lead or support small group sessions focused on social skills, emotional literacy, and conflict resolution. These sessions will aim to build students' self-esteem and equip them with the tools to navigate social situations more effectively.

  • Crisis Management: Provide immediate support during behavioral incidents, helping to de-escalate situations and ensure the safety and well-being of all students. You will be trained to handle challenging behavior in a calm and professional manner.

  • Collaboration with Staff: Work closely with the school's SENCO, pastoral team, and teachers to identify students in need of support, share insights on student progress, and adjust intervention strategies as necessary.

  • Parental Engagement: Communicate with parents and carers to keep them informed about their child's progress, discuss concerns, and involve them in the behavior management process.

  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of student behavior, interventions, and progress. You will be responsible for documenting your work and reporting on the effectiveness of different strategies.

  • Professional Development: Participate in ongoing training and development opportunities provided by Teaching Personnel and the school. This role is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in behavior management and pastoral care within a secondary school setting.

Requirements:

  • A background in psychology, education, youth work, or a related field is desirable.
  • Previous experience working with young people, particularly those with challenging behavior, is highly advantageous.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with students.
  • Patience, resilience, and a positive attitude toward helping students overcome barriers to learning.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students.

Benefits:

  • Weekly pay ranging from £419.25 to £500.
  • An opportunity to make a significant impact on students' lives by helping them improve their behavior and achieve their potential.
  • Potential for the role to become permanent, offering career development within the school.
