Long-Term Teachers is partnering with an outstanding special needs school in Tiverton who is currently seeking a dedicated and adaptable teaching assistant to join their committed team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people with social, emotional and mental health challenges. The ideal candidate will be confident, resilient and skilled in managing challenging behaviours.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide general classroom support and assist with 1:1 and small group interventions as needed
- Support the teacher with lesson planning, supervision, resource preparation and activity setup
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students, creating a nurturing and supportive environment
- Manage student behaviour in line with their EHCPs, meeting their individual needs
- Help students engage with the curriculum and facilitate learning
About the school:
- Special school catering to 11-16 year olds with over 100 students
- Specialises in supporting students with high functioning autism and ADHD
- A close-knit team that works collaboratively to support each other and the students
- Operates across two sites with purpose built nurture facilities
- The school day is structures to suit the children’s needs
- Small class sizes (maximum of 10 students) and a high staff-to-student ratio
About you:
- Passionate about working with young people, especial those with autism and ADHD
- Proactive, resilient and eager to contribute to the school community
- Able to build strong, positive relationships with students, staff and parents/carers
- A good sense of humour and a team player
- Experience working with individuals with autism and ADHD is highly desirable

Working hours:
Monday to Friday, 8am - 3pm (term time only). You will be well-supported and provided with regular professional development opportunities.
