Job summary

The appointment is to commence February 2025 for a fixed term period of 6 months.

Our fellowships can be recruited into 1-2 years in advance, so successful candidates will also be considered for future fellowship posts to start in August 2025 & August 2026 for 6-12 month periods. FRCS (T&O) or equivalent is essential at time of commencement in the post.

The post does not award a National Training Number. As this post is not recognised as a 'training post', full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise is required, and if the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK sponsorship will be required.

The duties of this post are equivalent to Post CCT/equivalent.

Main duties of the job

Responsible to Mr. Royston, Mr E. Mills, Mr J. McGregor-Riley & Miss Pincher

This post will provide the trainee with an opportunity to work in an active, well-recognised unit with a good record of presentations and publications.

In addition to extensive exposure to the management of Major Trauma, the trainee will gain significant experience in use of circular frames in the acute and reconstructive management of fractures, non-unions and malunions. The Unit applies over 150 Ilizarov frames per year for both trauma and reconstruction cases.

Qualifications

Essential

Registered (or eligible to be registered) with the GMC with a licence to practise Basic Medical Degree MRCS FRCS (T & O) or Equivalent by time of commencement

Distinctions, prizes, awards, scholarships, other degrees

Clinical experience

Essential

Competence in pre-operative and post-operative management Previous experience in the management of trauma Completion of CCT or approved overseas equivalent NHS Experience (excluding clinical attachment)

Research

Essential

Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate

Desirable

Publications in Peer reviewed journals. Demonstrate an ability to set up & complete research project(s)

Continuous Professional Develo

Essential

Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months

Desirable

Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio relevant to trauma and limb reconstruction
