Job summary

This is an an exciting opportunity for Physiotherapists with proven clinical and interpersonal skills to join our Band 6 rotational scheme at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.

You will gain experience treating a wide variety of clinical conditions. You will have the opportunity to develop both your clinical and non-clinical skills including appraisal and supervision of junior staff and students, participating in projects contributing to service development and delivery of training programmes and teaching both within the trust and our partner organisations.

Rotations are of 6 months duration and each post is supported by experienced senior staff. Staff need to be prepared to participate in any of the rotations within the rotational scheme. You will be expected to embrace the departments equity, inclusion and diversity working ethos.

These posts would suit a Band 5 physiotherapist wishing to gain specific experience at a more senior level or an established Band 6 wishing to consolidate and develop their knowledge and skills.

Main duties of the job

To provide a high standard physiotherapy service to inpatients and specialist clinics within the Guy's and St Thomas' Foundation Trust. This post is part of a 6 monthly rotation scheme, across both sites of Guy's and St Thomas' Foundation Trust and our community sites in the following areas:

Cardiac & Surgery, Critical Care, Medical, Lane Fox Ventilation and Weaning Unit, Integrated Respiratory Team, Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Older Persons Unit (Medical), Head & Neck Surgery, Oncology in and out patients, Respiratory outpatients and Long Covid.

Applicants would manage their own case load, be responsible for their clinical governance and development while being supported by the wider respiratory team.

Job responsibilities

To be professionally and legally responsible for all aspects of the post-holders own work To carry out assessment of patients as an autonomous practitioner, including those with complex presentations, and using clinical reasoning skills and knowledge of evidence based practice, determines appropriate care plan utilising wide range of treatment skills and options To interpret and analyse clinical and non-clinical facts to form accurate diagnoses in a wide range of conditions including those with a complex presentation, with occasional guidance from specialist physiotherapists To formulate accurate prognoses and recommend best course of intervention, developing comprehensive discharge plans To continually reassess patients in order to progress treatments effectively To co-ordinate intervention which may include other disciplines; advises and educates patient/carers/relatives/other health professionals Responsible for maintenance of accurate written records using POMR system and use of computerised data collection and records and comprehensive progress and discharge reports to medical referrers as required by rotation To manage clinical risk within own caseload at all times To participate in on-call and emergency duties as lone practitioner within the Trust To demonstrate physical ability to carry out physiotherapy assessment and interventions including manual handling techniques and therapeutic handling To demonstrate highly developed dexterity, co-ordination and palpatory sensory skills for assessment and manual treatment of patients To be able to manage potentially stressful, upsetting or emotional situations in an empathetic manner, including but not limited to those in oncology, ICU, vascular and neurology.

Essential

Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy Evidence of Continued Professional Development including attendance at recent post graduate courses relevant to the clinical field HCPC Registration

Essential

Broad range of experience, as an autonomous practitioner, at Band 5 level in acute and chronic respiratory care, acute and chronic rehabilitation and musculoskeletal care. Participation in on-call and weekend rota work. Experience of working as member of a physiotherapy team and of a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable

Previous experience at Band 6 level. Experience of teaching on Inservice programmes and to the MDT or other relevant forums Supervision of Band 5, support workers and students Rotational work within the NHS Experience of the research process
