Job overview

Central Lancashire Breast Unit are looking to recruit a part time Matron to join our breast team at Chorley and South Ribble District Hospital. This is a 22.5 hour flexible role within our designated out-patient breast service covering Monday to Friday. You will be expected to work alongside and complement the existing Matron who will undertake the clinical element of this portfolio as part of the job share. You will be responsible for overseeing the day to day running of the outpatients clinics providing leadership to the nursing teams within the remit of the Matron role. You will also work alongside the business Managers as part of the Triumvirate to ensure the breast service runs efficiently. We are particularly interested in hearing from positive, motivated, dynamic and enthusiastic applicants who enjoy participating in a range of quality improvement activities with staff and patients. The Matron will provide expert advice, support and visible leadership to all staff, driving the quality agenda throughout our well-established breast team.

Main duties of the job

To provide professional leadership within the breast service, guidance, development and support for nurses and care staff ensuring the provision of excellent care with compassion.

Authoritative and professional role model and ensuring the productive operation of the area through monitoring and maintenance of the highest standards of clinical care.

To monitor and improve the efficient and effective management of resources and the care environment so that services and staff are organised to meet the needs of the patient by providing a consistently excellent quality of care.

To act at all times in a manner that upholds the Trust's values and working as part of a team to ensure that patients and relatives receive excellent care with compassion.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To provide excellent care with compassion through robust monitoring processes. ️

Responsible for ensuring the nursing team are adequately resourced and supported. ‍️‍️️

Providing assurance that clinical services are developed and delivered in line with national policy, trust priorities, available evidence, and patient care needs.

Responsible for leading and developing the specialty nursing team, administration, and support teams by being visible and a strong role model.

Provide leadership and direction to the team.

Be involved in research and development opportunities, providing clinical supervision and advice for staff in order to support them in reaching their full potential.

Responsible for the productive operation of the clinical area through the monitoring and maintenance of standards that create a safe, clean, and organized environment. ️

Use processes to increase nurses' time spent in therapeutic contact with patients.

Financial management to ensure robust financial controls are in place, resources are effectively utilized, and financial targets achieved.

Workforce planning with responsibility for vacancy/talent management and solutions found to ensure the department has sustainable staffing structures.

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria

Appropriate Professional Registration Degree within healthcare / research 1st Line management/leadership development course Teaching aEvidence of Continuous Professional Developmentnd Assessing qualification.

Desirable criteria

Significant experience as a breast care nurse including the ability to examine patients Study of nursing at an advanced academic level Clinical Examination Qualification Breast Care Specific Qualification

Knowledge & Experience

Substantial and relevant post registration experience Significant experience of working in a senior nursing role including nursing management or team leadership Proven ability to flexibly manage manpower and other resources Able to demonstrate a personal contribution to the continuing professional development of staff Able to demonstrate a sound working knowledge of current issues within the NHS Knowledge of Clinical Governance and Safeguarding and the relevance of these to practice Experience of contributing to service developments and business planning Awareness of budgetary management and control Experience of managing and completing ‘performance management’ processes
