As a Principal Engineer - Exteriors at Gordon Murray Automotive, you will play a pivotal role in leading the design and development of exterior components and systems for our cutting-edge vehicles. Working within a dynamic and collaborative environment, you will drive forward-thinking solutions that enhance both performance and aesthetics.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and development of exterior components and systems, ensuring alignment with project objectives and quality standards.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to multidisciplinary teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners to define design requirements, specifications, and project deliverables.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments to inform design decisions and mitigate potential issues.
  • Utilize advanced CAD tools and simulation techniques to optimize component designs for performance, manufacturability, and compliance.
  • Oversee prototype fabrication, testing, and validation activities to verify design integrity and performance targets.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance design processes, methodologies, and tools.
  • Mentor and coach junior engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence.


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field.
  • Proven experience in automotive design and development, with a focus on exterior components and systems.
  • Expertise in CAD software (e.g., CATIA, NX) and simulation tools for structural analysis and optimization.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and industry standards relevant to automotive exteriors.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive projects to successful outcomes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Passion for automotive design and innovation, with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to delivering world-class results.
