Job summary

Are you looking to be part of an exciting team on Ward 15?

You will work as an integral part of the clinical ward / area team andto be responsible for the co-ordination of all patient facilities / services inthe ward area, ensuring a clean, safe and comfortable environment.

Themain element of the role is ensuring and supporting the delivery of cleaning,catering and minor maintenance, together with other specified tasks to meetindividual patients needs, as determined by the ward sister / charge nurse.

Thepost holder will work co-operatively with colleagues, as part of the team andperform additional duties as and when directed by the ward clinical team, toenable nursing staff to undertake direct patient care.

Main duties of the job

Communication

Whenrequired greet patients and visitors to the area being mindful for goodrelationships between patients, staff and relatives.

Communicate effectively with other team members.

Workas part of the ward team to ensure the continual provision of the highestpossible standards of service.

Communicate effectively with patients and carers, recognisingtheir needs for alternative methods of communication.

Toliaise with maintenance staff to ensure that equipment is in working order.

Organiseand update notice boards as appropriate.

Maintaina high standard of personal behaviour and ensure effective communication withall members of the multidisciplinary team, patients carers and relatives.

Actas a point of contact for ward based volunteers, providing local induction andday to day guidance.

Personal and peopledevelopment

Takeresponsibility for personal updating and development, including mandatorytraining Development Review Process.

Take responsibility for maintaining a record of own personaldevelopment.

Participatein the Trust Appraisal System.

Work with management on any new training requirements.

Demonstrate skills and activities to others who are undertakingsimilar work.

Ensurethat Patients information booklets are always available on the locker.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

Educated to GCSE level or equivalent Previous experience in hospitality / customer facing or care environment Experience of working in a team The candidate must have knowledge of the following or be prepared to undertake the relevant training: - Basic Health & Safety Infection Control Manual Handling Basic Food Hygiene Customer Care Good telephone and reception manner Self-motivated Ability to communicate with staff, patients and visitors Ability to motivate others Good self-organisational skills Ability to work on own initiative and meet deadlines Bank Holiday / weekend working as required by the Department Working with hazardous chemicals Able to work flexibly during work hours to cover department needs Standard Clauses A Disclosures and Barring Service check will be carried out where the position is eligible for a Disclosures and Barring Service Check in accordance with the 2012 Protection of Freedom Act and the guidance issued by the DBS. All posts working with children or vulnerable adults are required to have an Enhanced DBS checked including checking against DBS / ISA Vetting and Barring lists.
