The chemotherapy production unit at Chichester provides around 1500 chemotherapy doses to patients a month. Led by a highly supportive pharmacy team who ensure safe, efficient and effective service to Cancer Services and other teams within the Trust

This is a really exciting opportunity to shape the development of the service at St Richard's Hospital. With early discussions about a centralised Aseptic Unit within Sussex this is a perfect opportunity to be part of this project and shape the service to the Trust.

Main duties of the job

As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality pharmaceutical care. Your responsibilities will grow encompassing a range of clinical, technical and administrative tasks, ensuring the safe and effective preparation of SACT medicines. Daily responsibilities:

To support and maintain the work of the Aseptic Services Responsible for the dispensing and supply of aseptic medicines Delivering pharmacy services directly on wards, including medications reviews and patient consultations

Clinical Duties:

Provide specialist clinical pharmacy service to cancer patients Work closely with the lead specialists within the department

Aseptic Preparation:

Support the team to ensureaseptic facilities meet the standards assessed by external audits Help develop and deliver a safe, efficient and effective aseptic service

Patient Safety:

Monitor chemotherapy regimens and clinically check prescriptions prior to their production Ensure chemotherapy agents are manufactured to available standards. Engage in continuous professional development and completing training program required to progress to a band 7 pharmacist

Progression :

Learning to oversee the day-to-day running of the aseptic unit and providing professional supervision Expanding clinical and aseptic knowledge Learning to plan/lead service improvement initiatives Complete training programs required for the rol

Job description

Job responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include:

To undertake specific duties agreed with the Lead Pharmacist Cancer Services in line with the grade and scope of the post. During periods of absence of the Lead Pharmacist, to train to deputise as the Accountable and Responsible Pharmacist for all work carried out under section 10 of the Medicines Act within the Pharmacy Aseptic Unit. To assist the Lead Pharmacist in responding appropriately to external regional QC inspections, detailing actions undertaken to comply with their recommendations; in conjunction with the Technician Team Leader Aseptic Services. To gain experience in the participate of consultant wards rounds, multi-disciplinary team meetings and case conferences as and when necessary in absence of the Lead Pharmacist Cancer Services. To help develop and deliver a safe, efficient and effective pharmaceutical aseptic service to the cancer services directorate. This includes ensuring that facilities meet the standards assessed by external audits.

This role offers a great opportunity to develop both technical and clinical skills in a supportive environment. The successful candidate must hold a Master of Pharmacy degree or equivalent and be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
