to the operation of a modern diagnostic service such as Quality Control, training and education or research and development.

We will provide you with an extensive induction and training programme and ongoing development to support you in your role and achieving your career ambitions.

The National Bacteriology Laboratory plays a leading role in transfusion and transplantation microbiology, both nationally and internationally, with close links with UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), universities and international biomedical companies.

Main duties

You will be required to perform, analyse, record and interpret a wide range of specialist / complex bacteriological investigations relating to the issue of results for blood and tissue products

You will be responsible for the support and training of new and less experienced staff

You will be required to handle blood and tissue samples and operate a range of laboratory analysers and equipment

You will be on hand to deal with queries from other departments, medical staff or visitors and to provide specialist bacteriological advice to a range of service users

Some Saturday working will be required on a rotational basis

About You

Experience and Knowledge

Broad knowledge and experience in the field of bacteriology and bacterial identification gained through previous experience working as a Biomedical Scientist Experience in specialised manual and autommated bacteriological laboratory techniques using a wide range of complex equipment Experience in prioritising and issuing work to other staff and monitoring progress to ensure deadlines are met Understanding of UK Accreditation Service (UKAS), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), Good Laboratory Practice and UK Blood Transfusion Service (UKBTS) Experience of training and mentoring staff

Qualifications and Training

Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Biomedical Scientist Science graduate with relevant post graduate training in bacteriology and bacterial identification. Evidence of continuous learning and professional development Willingness to undertake further training and development relevant to the post and work of the laboratory
