Job summary

We are looking for motivated and dynamic pharmacists to join the department at Barts Health to participate in the rotational band 7 pharmacist programme. The programme includes 9 month rotations across the four different sites of Royal London hospital, St Bartholomew's hospital, Whipps Cross hospital and Newham hospital.

You will work closely with medical and nursing staff and the wider multidisciplinary team on a wide range of medicines optimisation matters, and to ensure standardisation of medicine policies and procedures wherever appropriate.

You will also be expected to contribute to the research agenda working with staff across the Pharmacy department and student placements.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work on the wards and deliver quality care to patients at ward level through efficient medicines optimization. This will include the assessment of patient's own drugs, medicine reconciliation, original pack dispensing at ward level, counseling patients about their medicines and coordinating the supply of discharge medication. The post holder will work with their ward-based team to continually develop the service, while maintaining high standards and achieving best practice to meet the needs of patients and the Trust. The role will also involve dispensary-based responsibilities.

Essential

oPost registration experience in an acute hospital based clinical post. oExperience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide patient care. oExperience of undertaking research, quality improvement or audit projects. oTo have been involved in bringing about change to a service/department

Desirable

oExperience delivering care in acute medicine and surgery specialties in a ward setting.

Skills

Essential

oExcellent interpersonal skills. oAble to complete documentation accurately with attention to detail. oAble to accurately follow written procedures under pressure. oDemonstrate numeracy skills and ability to perform accurate, complex calculations. oAbility to plan, prioritise and organise self and others. oAbility to manage times effectively and work to deadlines. oIT literate; able to use Microsoft Office with intermediate IT skills including accurate data entry and use of specialist computer programs. oEffective problem solving skills. oAble to communicate complex information effectively to all health and care professionals, colleagues, patients, and their loved ones. oDemonstrates ability to deliver staff training.

Knowledge

Essential

oDemonstrates sound clinical knowledge. oKnowledge of drug and therapeutics at Diploma level or equivalent. oUnderstanding of clinical governance and clinical risk management. oAwareness of current national standards, guidelines, and service delivery issues. oUnderstanding of GPhC revalidation requirements. oKnowledge of medicines management systems at ward level. oUp to date knowledge of legislation relevant to pharmacy practice , controlled drugs, Health and Safety at Work. oUnderstanding of stock control systems. oUnderstanding of the pharmaceutical care needs. oKnowledge of Safe and Secure Handling of Medicines requirements. oUnderstanding of the importance of adherence to SOPs and legislation. oDemonstrates a good understanding of patient safety initiatives.

Qualifications

Essential

oMPharm or equivalent. oRegistered as a pharmacist with the GPhC. oDiploma in Clinical Pharmacy/Pharmacy Practice or equivalent.

Desirable

oIndependent prescribing qualification.
