Job summary

We are very excited to request applicants for a qualified Band 6 clinical associate psychologist (CAP) to provide high quality psychological input to people with a forensic background and complex needs. The nature of the work will be to help service users understand, prevent and ameliorate psychological distress and related risk, to ensure successful transitions from secure hospitals to the community, and to support individuals to live safely in the community. The post will provide opportunities to work both alongside professionals from other disciplines and autonomously under the supervision of a qualified psychologist, and it will report directly to the Principal Psychologist in the service.

The post will be involved in carrying out specialist assessments, offering a range of therapeutic interventions to individuals who present with offending behaviours and complex needs, including 1:1 interventions and community groups. The interventions are adapted to service users' needs, and are developed in line with service users' formulations, in conjunction with their clinical supervisor. The post will be involved in providing consultation, supervision, delivering formulation meetings and training to staff. The successful candidate will receive supervision and guidance for this work. Post holders will be required to base themselves at Tatchbury Mount and to travel within Hampshire. A full driving licence is required. A team's pool car is available to use.

Main duties of the job

*To undertake specialised psychological assessments, risk assessments, adapted treatments and other types of clinical intervention with individual & groups of patients within the Specialist Community Forensic Team (SCFT).

*To be able to work independently, under supervision, on a day-to-day basis. This work will be reviewed regularly with supervision usually being offered by the Principal Counselling Psychologist.

*To abide by the British Psychological Society (BPS) Professional Code of Conduct, local and national policies and procedures that define scope of practice, and to meet induction standards.

The final combination of Southern Health and Solent NHS Trust services is expected in late 2024, when our new organisation, to be known as Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, will be formed.

Our new Trust will continue to cater to the unique needs of different communities, making healthcare across the county more accessible, as well as offering staff more opportunities for career development, training and partnership working.
