Opportunity Summary

The Assistant Accountant will be responsible for maintaining the AP ledger and assisting with some finance & accounting duties for Whitetower Holdings UK Limited and all its subsidiaries, including Whitetower Energy Limited and River Nene Power Limited.

The Assistant Accountant will report into the Finance Manager, supporting the finance team and on occasions will also work closely with the staff at the various site plants and General Manager. Qualified candidates must be able to work independently, with minimal supervision, in a fast-paced environment.

Primary Functions

Accounting:

Assist with the cash book postings and reconciliation of the two bank accounts for WEL. Reconcile credit card expenditures for managers. Prepare journal entries based on open POs and unprocessed invoices. Liaise with the Management Accountant to ensure that all ledgers are kept up-to-date. Ensure compliance with established internal accounting and reporting controls. Perform accounting and finance duties to support the business as required.

Accounts Payable:

Receive invoices and backup invoice copy onto SharePoint. Code invoices with proper accounting information, apply correct tax (VAT) code. Match invoices to appropriate purchase order. Liaise with the operational team where necessary to clear queries on unreceipted POs, GRNI balances, etc. Input invoices into Accounting following the finance monthly timetable. Distribute invoices for proper disbursement approval. Follow up on invoices pending approval. Return and answer all vendor communication and queries. Ensure timely, accurate, and courteous resolution of all accounts payable issues and reconcile vendor statements where necessary. Issue electronic remittances for payments made to vendors on request. Assist the Finance Manager with audit requests related to the Accounts Payable function. Responsible for accurate electronic vendor payments, accounts payable files, and supporting documentation. Handle new vendor requests and credit application forms; maintain certificates of insurance and other contractor proof of ability to work on the NAES site. Update the GRNI tracker with invoice details. Maintain accurate records of vendor insurance certificates, terms & conditions, and Accounts Payable records. Assist the Management Accountant with accruals and prepayments when required.

Working Relationships

The Assistant Accountant reports to the Finance Manager and will support the Management Accountant as and when required. The Assistant Accountant will also work closely with the Owner’s Accounting Representative, the General Manager and other plant supervisors as needed.

Working Conditions

This role requires the ability to sit/stand at a desk, use of a computer, handle long periods of screen time, and communicate verbally and in writing. There are smoking restrictions in and around the facilities. Sites are strictly non-smoking. Ad hoc travel will be required approximately once or twice every couple of months. Some work may require protective equipment to be worn (hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection). Sites are strictly non-smoking.

Fitness for Duty

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a pre-employment drug screen and post-employment random drug screening.

Work Schedule

The position is primarily an office hours role, Monday to Friday, with hybrid working, predominantly from home. At times, it may require extended working hours and some weekend and Bank Holiday work, as necessitated by schedules, workload, and plant conditions. Ad hoc travel will be required approximately once or twice every couple of months.

Compensation

The initial starting compensation will range from £30,000 to £35,000.

Education and Experience Required

Technical Experience:

Educated to a minimum of level 3 AAT qualification (or comparable professional qualification) with a desire to continue to be fully AAT qualified. Have a strong background and experience of working in an accounting environment. Experience in an accounts payable position with an understanding of an automated accounts payable and general ledger system. Must have a good understanding of double entry book-keeping. Experience of maintaining financial records to Trial Balance. Must understand the principles of accruals and prepayments and be able to differentiate between Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet reports. Strong computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office applications in the Windows environment. QuickBooks and Maximo experience a plus.

Orientation to detail with good oral and written communication skills. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information. Ability to work in a dynamic, team-oriented environment with multiple priorities.
