To ensure suitable designs, resources and engineering outputs are achieved for our Nitrates Schemes we’re looking for a Technical Manager to lead our Water Non-Infrastructure team.

What will you be doing as our new Technical Manager in WNI?  

You will be responsible for creating and developing value-driven solutions that align with our capital investment programme outcomes and effectively manage the delivery of project designs within Water Non-Infrastructure Nitrate Schemes.

Key Accountabilities:

Lead and manage engineering design delivery for assigned projects. Develop and oversee Engineering Project Plans encompassing scope, schedule, cost, risk, and resources. Collaborate with engineering discipline leads to ensure optimal design methodologies and outputs. Implement design quality procedures to ensure right-first-time philosophy adherence. Manage supplier and subcontractor design input, ensuring integration and alignment with project goals. Produce designs prioritizing health & safety, environmental considerations, construction feasibility, and stakeholder needs. Work collaboratively with other project functions to deliver outcomes efficiently. Seek opportunities to enhance affordability and value throughout the design process. Support project programmes to achieve milestones and drive efficiencies. Develop sustainable designs contributing to carbon reduction and natural capital enhancement. Contribute to risk management and value-driven outcomes. Ensure compliance with Construction Design & Management (CDM) Regulations, managing design-related health and safety risks. Identify and address health, safety, and welfare issues within the team. Provide clear leadership to the project design team, fostering a positive and inclusive environment. Manage multi-disciplinary teams, including performance management and mentoring. Identify competency gaps and support recruitment and development initiatives. Cultivate a culture of experimentation, innovation, and continuous improvement within the team. Support initiatives to reduce carbon footprint and embrace digital technologies for enhanced project delivery.

A little bit about your skills, experience and behaviours….

To join us on the team, you’ll hold an Engineering or equivalent degree (preferrable). You’ll have extensive experience in water-sector assets and capital project delivery preferred. Familiarity with the design and build environment is advantageous.

Able to inspire and lead a team, you’ll be customer focussed in all the activities you undertake. With a strong appreciation of how collaboration can truly unlock complex projects, you’ll be able to assess unique situations and draw upon your technical expertise to make decisive, yet safety conscious, decisions to keep projects on track. Always operating with integrity and accountability, you’ll be able to build rapport and trust amongst your stakeholder and establish yourself and the team across the Alliance.

To join us on our exciting and challenging journey for engineering excellence, you’ll be educated to degree level in water/wastewater process science/engineering related subject and have experience of process engineering in water/wastewater and biosolids treatment. 

With strong communication skills, you’ll have excellent stakeholder management skills and champion collaboration to tackle challenges and obstacles which could hinder our objective of outperformance. Demonstrating strong IT skills, you’ll marry your technical and people skills to deliver the best process engineering facility to your stakeholders on a regular basis.
