Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our Community Older Person's Mental Health Primary care service, based in Swansea. This post is part time (31 hours) and is particularly suited to a motivated and skilled Occupational Therapist who is competent in providing compassionate and person-centred care to service users.

The post holder will provide specialist assessments and therapeutic interventions to patients within the primary care service presenting with organic and functional mental health disorders, supporting individuals to remain living independently in the community.

You will need excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills and sound clinical knowledge. Enthusiasm and the potential to develop these within post will also be valued. As such you will be provided with a variety of opportunities to develop your leadership and clinical skills.

You will be required to work closely with MDT colleagues and contribute to the development of a high-quality, evidence-based occupational therapy service. You will have an opportunity to help shape and promote the service, providing you with a unique opportunity to engage in service development and change.

Main duties of the job

To manage a defined caseload within specialist area, using evidence based /client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the outcomes of intervention where appropriate; hospital, community, patient's homes, schools, outpatient settings and maintaining associated records.

To organise this efficiently and effectively with regard to clinical priorities and use of time.

To ensure clinical records are kept to agreed standards and report accurately to others.

To work in partnership with clients, carers and all stake holders including the multidisciplinary/ multi agency team to identify relevant goals.

To provide leadership and supervision for junior staff, as delegated by supervisor /team leader.

To regularly supervise Occupational Therapy students on practice placements.

To participate in CPD and develop skills and knowledge through participation in the Band 6 Development Programme and other developmental activities.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications

Essential

Degree in Occupational Therapy (or equivalent OT qualification) Professional Registration with HCPC

Desirable

Accredited fieldwork supervisor for the education of OT students

Experience & Knowledge

Essential

Experience of autonomous caseload management, comprising assessment, planning intervention and evaluation within relevant clinical area Understanding of the Occupational Therapy process with particular emphasis on dementia and mental health. Knowledge of the principles of Clinical Governance Broad knowledge of current best practice in Occupational Therapy with designated client group Experience of research and/ or audit and implementing evidence based practice Previous experience of supervising staff
