ePropelled is a fast growing leader in magnetics engineering. Our patented technology innovations are used in the air, on the road, on water and are redefining the future of electric propulsion. We design intelligent motors, motor controllers, and generators that reduce energy consumption and improve system efficiency at a lower cost in multiple industries.
ePropelled spans three continents, in the US our focus is on industrial and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) motors. In India, we design and manufacture motors for light electric vehicles.
Here in the UK, our focus is on 400V and 800V traction motors.
eDTS is our patented automotive traction motor technology which will deliver significant efficiency improvement to high volume electric vehicles.
The Role
You will need to consider cost, timing and performance targets and deliver a solution for the motor inverter and 'switching matrix' needed to control the eDTS motors.
As a senior engineer, you will take responsibility for the technical delivery of your projects.
You will take ownership for your own tasks and will endeavour to deal with issues using your own expertise. You will communicate closely with the Programme Manager and escalate issues when needed.
You will understand the fundamentals of power electronics both in terms of software and hardware and you will be driven by your belief in the importance of both for future mobility.

Responsibilities

To fulfil the role you will:

− Need to have a strong understanding of motor controllers / drives
− Develop motor control software design concepts in support of system requirements
− Have experience with software architecture design, component identification and interface definition
− Implement embedded software to drive power electronics components including embedded code, APIs and user interfaces
− Write unit, integration and system level test specification and test the embedded software as per test specifications
− Conduct simulation for power electronics devices and understand the limitations of such
− Create electronic schematics for power electronics components (SMPS, DC-DC, motor inverters, on board chargers etc.)
− Support PCB design and layouts
− Understand the design implications of EMC performance
− Have a goal oriented approach to your work respective time and cost as well as functional performance
− Write and interpret specifications and requirements
− Ensure adherence to requirements documentation
− Support the development of, and ensure adherence to, project plans
− Support product documentation (e.g., design notes, bills of materials, user manuals)
− Understand the implications of ISO26262
− Be familiar with ASIL ratings and Functional Safety
− Be capable of the highest quality of communication to the Programme Management team, the Engineering Manager, and customers
− Understand the importance of test, quality assurance and release processes and assure strict adherence to these at all time
− Demonstrate a self-motivated approach to problem solving

RequirementsAdvantageous skills

− Knowledge of designing for high voltages and high currents
− Experience of working with electric vehicle systems
− Knowledge of designing motor control inverters and control circuits for power electronics
− Knowledge of the use and limitations of lab test equipment and instrumentation
− Experience of electronic CAD software e.g. Altium, Eagle
− Experience of MATLAB / Simulink / LabVIEW or similar
− Experience of DFMEA
− Experience of embedded C
− Mentoring of junior engineers

Educational qualifications

− Degree in Electronics Engineering or equivalent.
− Minimum of five years working experience within a similar field of embedded electronics design or power electronics
