The Indirect Tax department supports EDF Trading’s business:

•In an advisory capacity by identifying the tax opportunities and consequences of commercial transactions; and

•In bearing responsibility for fulfilling EDFT’s tax compliance and reporting obligations throughout the geographical areas in which EDF Trading conducts physical trades

Position purpose

To support the Tax team in providing accurate and timely advice, including analysis of international supply chains, and therefore contributing to the team’s objective of timely and accurate submission of all its Indirect Tax filings (VAT returns, Customs declarations and Excise declarations).

Partnering with our operations and business functions to identify any changes which may impact the tax position of the proposed and existing transactions and work with the business to deliver practical solutions.

Assist in maintaining our tax determination systems so that any tax law or business changes are accurately identified and reflected.

EDFT will provide support and study leave to take relevant exams. This is expected to be the Association of Tax Technicians ATT qualification (could also be CTA if already ATT qualified).

Department

The Tax Department is responsible for ensuring that the EDFT group meets its tax compliance requirements in the jurisdictions in which it operates, and provides support and advice to the business and other support functions as appropriate.

Position purpose

Interim role: To support the Tax team by contributing to the team’s objective of timely and accurate submission of all its Indirect Tax filings (VAT returns, Customs declarations and Excise declarations). Partnering with our operations and business functions to reinforce tax compliance. Assist in continuously improving our reporting processes through the use of technology.

Main responsibilities

Compliance/Reporting - Trading

Analyse international physical commodity transactions, to ensure compliance with indirect tax reporting (VAT, excise duty, and customs duty). Where appropriate, seek tax advice from external advisers Gather and analyse information from a wide range of data sources and systems to accurately prepare a number of VAT/Indirect tax returns, including Europe, Canada, and Japan Follow up with other internal departments to understand exceptions in accounting and reporting processes Obtain supporting documents and prepare them for inclusion in the relevant archive for each tax return Perform monthly VAT account reconciliations and prepare general ledger journal entries for tax returns as necessary Participate in delivery of training to other teams e.g. operations and business functions to improve tax compliance

Automation and System Updates

Identify the potential for modernising our tax processes through simplification and technology as appropriate Collaborate across the tax team, to provide cross-team training and support as needed to other team members Tax treatments: where system tax rules have not applied a tax treatment, analyse the transaction, and manually add the tax treatment in the system.

Experience required

At least 3 years of experience in indirect tax gained working in-house or within a professional services firm Workday experience is an advantage but not essential Good analytical skills and attention to detail Great problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills Team player attitude, takes initiative and good communication skills Demonstrated ability to prioritize, handle pressure and deliver against deadlines

Technical requirements

General understanding of UK indirect tax principles and awareness of EU rules Recognised accountancy or tax qualifications an advantage but not essential Good IT skills

8.30am – 5.30pm / 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
