Are you ready for a challenge? Then Princess Royal University Hospital Local Neonatal Unit would like you to join our team.

We are looking for enthusiastic Band 5 nurses full-time and part-time (minimum 23 hours per week) who are able to work alongside our highly reputable multidisciplinary team (MDT). We also welcome experienced adult intensive care nurses with transferrable skills who might be looking to change to a different career pathway.

You will be offered the opportunity to complete training which includes theNeonatal Advanced Life Support, Neonatal Special Care/High Dependency Course and the Neonatal Intensive Care Course.

The Princess Royal University Hospital Local Neonatal Unit has just recently expanded; we are a level 2 provider in the South London Neonatal Network. We provide a family-integrated approach to care, involving families in the care of their own children, and helping parents understand their baby's needs. We have a wide range of expert Neonatal Medical and Nursing Team as well as Allied Health Professionals such as physiotherapist, occupational therapist, speech and language therapist and dietician that works across both sites.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a key member in relation to the development of practice in the Neonatal Unit. They will be working independently / autonomously and at times without direct supervision, accountable for their own professional working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of family integrated care principles.

To work with support, within a multi-disciplinary team to provide continuing care to a specified group of patients from admission to discharge. To supervise and teach junior members of staff and learners as appropriate. To maintain own personal development with support. To be a safe and effective practitioner able to provide high quality nursing care to patients and support to relatives.

Clinical Practice

To practice within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and adhere to this at all times. To promote childrens well-being and safeguard them from potential or actual harm. To assess, plan and evaluate individualised programmes of care to children and young people in partnership with the patient, their carers and the multi-disciplinary team using a family centred approach to care. To support and assist in the health education of patients and their families. To ensure care is delivered in accordance with latest evidence based practice guidelines. To ensure that patients receive high quality clinical care and a good patient experience, having regard for their customs, religious beliefs and doctrines. Recognise and avoid situations that may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of the individuals. Recognise the significance of observations made, and use them to develop and initiate nursing assessments and devise a plan of care. To ensure that patients and parents/carers are informed as appropriate and consent is obtained according to current policy. To maintain up to date and comprehensive records of care in accordance with NMC, Trust and legal requirements. To maintain patient confidentiality at all times. To practice within the Unit philosophy. To support junior colleagues, students, and visitors to the department.

Education and Research

To assist in the teaching and practice development of junior colleagues and students. To demonstrate the use of information and research findings to support and promote evidence based practice within the clinical area. To participate in research and audit within the unit. To assist in setting up protocols and guidelines to enhance best practice. To assist in auditing of these protocols and guidelines. To participate in Trust and Care Group initiatives to develop nursing practice.

Management

To manage an agreed workload with support from colleagues and senior staff as appropriate. To ensure that all Trust and local policies, protocols and procedures are adhered to by colleagues as appropriate. To work within and support the multi-disciplinary team. To maintain effective communication and professional relationships with all areas within the Care Group and with associated clinical areas within the Trust. To participate with the monitoring of standards of hygiene and cleanliness on the ward / department and report as appropriate To share knowledge and skills developed with other members of the multi-disciplinary team. To participate in reflection & / or Clinical Supervision sessions as provided. To observe personal responsibility for resource management. To observe a general duty of care for the health, safety and wellbeing of self, work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital, in addition to any specific risk management associated with this post.

Personal Professional Development

To achieve a range of clinical competencies as required within the Trust and Care Group. To maintain your own personal and professional development in accordance with PREP requirements, attending mandatory study sessions as required. To undergo and actively participate in your own performance appraisals. To keep up to date with NMC & Trust guidelines and protocols. To adhere to the NMC Code of Professional conduct working within and accepting responsibility for maintaining agreed levels of competence.

Communication

Will be responsible for the provision and receipt of complex, sensitive or contentious information related to patients, patient care, relatives, staff and other multidisciplinary colleagues. Provides highly specialised advice concerning the care or treatment of identified groups or categories of patients / clients. Communicate effectively and efficiently with all members of the multi-disciplinary team regarding patient care. Will communicate with patients and relatives, making reports and liaising, as appropriate, with medical staff and other members of the care team and management. Will give and receive day / night reports acting as Team Leader / member / Coordinator as necessary Report to the Doctor / Senior Sister / Charge Nurse and members of the multidisciplinary team on patients condition, both verbally and in writing as necessary. Liaise with inter-hospital departments / personnel Attend and participate in ward meetings and help promote new ideas and methods and assist in their implementation. Person Specification

Essential

Registered Nurse (RN1) with active NMC registration at time of starting appointment. Willingness to undertake studies in neonatal nursing
