The Role

 

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is seeking an experienced Teaching and Learning Coordinator to join the School of Education, Communication and Language Sciences professional services team. This is an exciting and challenging role, and you will be responsible for managing and leading the Teaching and Learning team.

 

You will inspire, lead and develop the team, having overall responsibility for ensuring the School’s teaching and learning functions are carried out effectively with a commitment to enhanced efficiency and quality.

Key Accountabilities

  • Manage and Lead the teaching and learning team, allocating work as appropriate and monitoring performance to ensure an effective service is provided at all times
  • Ensure the effective administration of a wide range of learning, development and engagement activities
  • Coordinate meetings schedules and support to a range of meetings and committees in relation to the preparation and circulation of agendas and minutes
  • Produce accurate, timely reports on teaching, learning and development activity as required
  • Lead, develop and motivate the teaching and learning team and conduct Performance and Development Reviews (PDRs) ensuring that training is appropriate
  • Represent ECLS at Learning and Teaching Forum and volunteers for other working groups as they arise
  • Support the annual quality assurance processes and assist with the preparation of documentation necessary for Teaching Quality Assessments, providing guidance on updating MOFS, degree programme regulations, programme specifications and annual monitoring reviews
  • Act as expert user for key University systems, i.e. SAP, BW, SLM, MOF database, NESS and Canvas and for training other staff where appropriate
  • Manages and supports the module assessment set-up system. Liaising with academic staff to gather information about deadlines and Turnitin/Canvas requirements
  • Coordinate the examination process, ensuring exam papers are prepared, collated and submitted to deadlines in the prescribed format, including liaison with External Examiners. In addition, administration of exams and Boards of Examiners processes, including chasing missing marks or anomalies in marks
  • Responsible for  collation of timetable requirements in agreed timescales, managing the practicalities of proposed timetables and advising academic staff regarding requirements, constraints and practicalities of requests
  • Manage student induction process, coordinating arrangements with central services, liaising with academic staff and the teaching and learning team
  • Manage support for events, i.e., open days and recruitment events, coordinating CRM process, liaising with academics and contributing to an excellent student experience
  • Responsible for the oversight of the student evaluations process and extraction of reports from the relevant system
  • Manage the receipt and acknowledgement of appeals and complaints and for chasing additional information, including tracking within stated timescales. Making and recording of standard criteria-based decisions, referring requests which require further decision-making authority to the relevant personnel, and communicating of decisions to students via prescribed systems
  • Work with Teaching and Learning Manager in completing all external body data returns as required
  • Provide support to Teaching and Learning Manager with internal and external reviews i.e., Portfolio Review, Learning and Teaching Review, HCPC, BPS, Ofsted, collating documentation where required
  • Oversees placement allocations and arrangements for ITT and SLS students and invoicing system. Reviews existing arrangements and identifies areas of improvement
  • Any other duties within the scope and general nature of the grade which may be required; assisting other staff at times of heavy workload flexibly and co-operatively within the School to provide a co-ordinated and efficient support service

  • Proven experience of student administration processes within a higher education institution and an understanding of the main activities within the student life cycle
  • Experience of managing high quality administrative functions and managing a busy customer facing environment
  • Experience of leading and managing teams, with an ability to bring out the best in people
  • Self-confidence in advising senior colleagues on matters of policy and procedure
  • Able to prioritise, forward plan, meet deadlines as well as respond flexibly to unexpected demands
  • Evidence of a proactive, creative and flexible approach to problem-solving
  • Able to use initiative and apply creative solutions when faced with new challenges

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent professional qualification and demonstrable extensive work experience in a relevant role and/or comparable setting
