Job summary

The Perinatal Community Mental Health team are currently seeking a Senior Peer Support worker, this is a Band 4 post & the post is full time.

We would love to hear from anyone who has lived in experience of perinatal mental health problems and whom ideally have received care from a Perinatal mental health team

Peer support is based upin the recognition that there is no better person to support the path towards recovery than someone who has walked the same path as that individual

The Perinatal CMHT is a countywide service, we have bases in Lincoln, Boston & Grantham. Choice of base will be discussed at interview

The Perinatal team is an established team within LPFT & was founded in 2015. The team is a full MDT including Perinatal Health Nurses, Social Workers, OT, Peer Support, Psychology, administrative, nursery nurses, pharmacy & psychiatry

The postholder will be required to travel throughout the county and it is important to highlight that we are a countywide service so travel is on a daily basis in a rural community

Main duties of the job

The Senior PSW Will be the lead PSW for the team, this involves providing support, education & managerial supervision to 3 Peer Support workers within the team. Experience of supervising is essential.

The Senior PSW Will engage with patients under the care of the Perinatal CMHT, to show kindness, empathy & show their understanding and lived in experience of Perinatal mental health problems, inspiring hope for recovery

The role will include 1 to 1 support in patients home's as well as group work within the community

Job description

Job responsibilities

To model principles of hope, recovery and self-belief in all aspects of their work with patients and families.

To act as a connector and work collaboratively to establish and develop links with the wider peer support network both internal and external to LPFT.

Share coping, self-help and self-management techniques with patients and their carers, in an appropriate and supportive manner.

To support patients to meet treatment goals and enable access to the community to promote their emotional and social development.

As a core member of the multi-disciplinary team, the Senior Peer Support Worker will take a lead role in working alongside the other Peer Support Workers the students on a group basis and provide a supportive and leadership role within the college. They will also have the opportunity to co-work with other colleagues.

Support patients who may be struggling with transitions out of, or across, services.

Liaise with representatives from universal services, as appropriate, and facilitate and model good communication between services.

Comply with and carry out safe practice in accordance with Trust policies and procedures, and local and national policy and legislation.

To support induction, supervision and work-related training for Peer Support Workers.

Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information at all times and ensure accurate record-keeping in accordance with Trust Policy.

Facilitate access to community groups and networks that enable service users and /or carers to participate in community activities, in order to maximise opportunities for taking on socially valued roles, positive identify and support people moving on from clinical services.

To work flexibly across the week, this may include some weekend and evening work.

To work with expert peers and expert professionals, applying the principles of co-production by developing a learning environment that promotes equality and mutuality.

To act as a connector and work collaboratively to establish and develop links with the wider peer support network both internal and external to LPFT.

The Senior Peer Support Worker will share contacts, resources and signposting of additional services, community groups and networks that enable students to participate in their local community and seek support as required

Model personal responsibility, self-awareness, self-belief, self-advocacy and hopefulness via the telling of own recovery story to inspire and instil confidence in patients and staff alike.

Share/teach coping, self-help and self-management techniques within the peer relationship.

Work in a way that acknowledges the personal, social, cultural and spiritual strengths and needs of the individual.

To work collaboratively with LPFTs Recovery College Senior Peer Support Worker in the coproduction of the accredited Peer Support Worker training course

Qualifications

Level 2/GCSE Grade C or 4 preferable for English and Maths NVQ Level 3 Qualification in relevant subject or equivalent experience Completion of specific PSW training and have considerable experience of working or undertake this as part of their roleas a mental health PSW
