Job summary

You may also be trained as a learning disability nurse or physical health nurse . We welcome a diverse skill mix to enhance the quality of our care.

You may already be in a Band 6 role but are seeking a different challenge or you may be a Band 5 nurse in mental or physical health or learning disabilities and be ready to take the next step in your career.

Main duties of the job

You demonstrate that you are a proactive, abled and responsive nurse both clinically and in leading a team of nurses. This will involve coordinating shifts and sharing your knowledge to guide and support staff to provide strategies in safely managing the presenting needs of our client group. The posts require applicants to be able to work all shifts, including night duty. What skill set should you have?Applicants should have a thorough knowledge of care planning and risk assessment for our client group including the ability to engage people who are acutely unwell. You will enjoy collaborative working with service users, families and carers and understand the principles of recovery model. A good working knowledge of professional issues including legislation such as Mental Capacity Act 2005, Mental Health Act 1983 (2007) as well as the requirements of Care Quality Commission (CQC) and Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC). You will be required to provide meaningful and robust supervision with staff and to work towards undertaking annual appraisals - this will include providing mentorship and preceptorship.

About us

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

High-Cost Area Supplement

This post also attracts payment for High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,313 and a maximum payment of £5,436) (pro rata for part time staff).

1. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:Communication Build effective relationships with service users and carers. Ensure that relatives and carers of service users, where appropriate, have a good understanding of the condition of the service user and feel able to communicate effectively with the clinical area to answer any queries or concerns. Provide an effective alternative to hospital admission. Provide effective liaison between Services. To respect other disciplines viewpoints and communication with service users, carers, relatives, GPs, other professionals and agencies as appropriate. To work in partnership with referring agency to develop joint care plans. To be responsible for communicating complex clinical information to a variety of recipients ( families and other professionals), both verbally and in writing. To work jointly and collaboratively with NELFT colleagues in order to enhance and develop services to service users and their families. This will include participation in team case discussions. To ensure communication channels are consistent and understandable and that information provided is relevant and informed. To maintain effective consumer confidentiality, ensuring adherence to NELFT and own Service policies, the Data Protection legislation and the Freedom of Information Act.Personal Development Ensure that own knowledge and skills are constantly updated. Actively participate in clinical supervision. Actively participate in management supervision. Be aware of the KSF outline for the post and develop and maintain a portfolio of evidence for KSF review meetings. Achieve and demonstrate agreed standards of personal and professional development within the agreed time scale. Attend mandatory training as , Safety and Security Take steps to maintain the safety and welfare of staff and patients in all clinical environments. Annually attend the mandatory fire lecture and be familiar with the fire drill. To comply with the safe manual handling of patients and loads. Is conversant with and promotes correct Manual Handling procedures. You are required to make positive efforts to maintain your own personal safety and that of others by taking reasonable care, carrying out requirements of the law and following recognized codes of practice. You are also required to be aware of and comply with Trust policies on health and safety, etc. Must be aware of the standard procedure to prevent and control infection.Information Processing To be responsible for recording monitoring and reporting on clinical work at the time of referral, during on-going work and for evaluation purposes as consistent with the policies and protocols of the trust. To enter data into case notes, RIO on a regular basis as required by NELFT. Ensure patient records are up-to-date and comply with defensible documentation. To input clinical information onto RIO promptly and accurately. Communicate clearly and concisely in both written and verbal forms, taking into account the ethical professional and legal aspects of care including provision and communication with relevant othersService Improvement Work alongside service users and carers/relatives to continually work towards improving and maintaining high standards. To initiate and develop new ideas and methods in consultation with the ward /team manager. Participate in research, audit reviews and other initiatives in accordance to Clinical Governance. Actively contribute to the development and review of policies and procedures based upon best provide clinical skills to the multi-disciplinary team in the processing and assessment of referrals in line with agreed policy and further take part in any subsequent care programme carried out by this Team. To work within a multi-disciplinary framework, promoting the principles of the Team. To actively seek user feedback and ensure that such feedback is used to enhance and develop service delivery. To actively participate in the setting of quality standards, including auditing, monitoring and reviewing treatment interventions and outcomes. To assist in the development and implementation of service policies and procedures. To support the team in understanding and valuing others roles and contributions. To enable others to contribute effectively, acknowledging the nature of and context of their work, sharing and taking account own and others knowledge and skills, and differences in working and professional practice.

Extensive experience of working with people with complex, acute mental health needs and challenging behaviours. Ability to perform under pressure, quickly and effectively, making timely clinical decisions and following through available agreed care pathways.
