Job summary

As a Phlebotomist at Lionwood Medical Practice in Norwich, Norfolk, you'll be an integral part of our healthcare team, responsible for performing venipuncture and capillary blood collection procedures. We are also looking at developing this role into a Health Care Assistant role, where you will support the Practice in managing long term condition reviews and provide a diverse offering of health services.

Main duties of the job

Perform venepuncture and capillary blood collections on patients of all ages, adhering to established protocols. Verify patient identity and specimen labelling to maintain sample integrity. Prepare blood collection equipment, ensuring proper sterilisation and disposal protocols are followed. Adhere to infection control standards and maintain a clean work area. Record and document collection and procedure information accurately. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care. Work with Practice management and clinical professionals to support your development and training in managing long term conditions.

Job responsibilities

Job Description: We are currently seeking a dedicated Phlebotomist to join our team. The Phlebotomist will play a crucial role in our healthcare delivery system by performing venipucture and capillary blood collection procedures, ensuring accurate specimen labelling, and maintaining a safe and hygienic work environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a compassionate approach to patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collections on patients of all ages, following established protocols and procedures. Verify patient identity and specimen labelling to maintain sample integrity and accuracy. Prepare blood collection equipment, including needles, syringes, and specimen containers, ensuring proper sterilisation and disposal protocols are followed. Adhere to infection control standards and maintain a clean and organised work area. Prepare specimens and ensure that they are ready for collection to allow for analysis, thus maintaining proper handling and storage procedures. Record and document collection and procedure information accurately, including patient details and information. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care and service delivery. Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Phlebotomy or equivalent qualification or equivalent Knowledge of relevant health and safety regulations including infection control measures. Excellent venepuncture skills and proficiency in blood collection techniques. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with patients and colleagues. Attention to detail and accuracy in specimen handling and labelling. Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and privacy at all times.
