Job summary

Are you a keen surgical pharmacist or looking to progress your career in surgical specialities? Then this may be the post for you. We are looking for a pharmacist to lead our services to our tertiary centre for vascular surgery and work within our Specialist Surgery and Ophthalmology team. The OUH vascular surgery centre also forms part of the regional network within BOB ICS. Specialist Surgery comprises ENT, Maxfax, Vascular and Plastic surgery and the team also provides a pharmacy service to the Oxford Eye Hospital.

Our pharmacy department at Oxford University Hospitals is progressive and pioneering and we are looking for an intuitive, enthusiastic, versatile pharmacist to join our team.

Main duties of the job

The ideal candidate will be a pharmacist with relevant experience in a surgical setting with an ability to balance the day to day with building and future proofing a service. They will be able to develop and adapt the pharmacy service to balance the needs of the vascular surgery CSU and the pharmacy department, and to deputise for the lead pharmacist in the team.

Our Trust Quality priorities this year are reducing medicines harm from opiates and insulin, both of which are used extensively across vascular surgery and so there will be opportunity to join up with these work streams and implement ideas at a local level.

Job responsibilities

Develop and lead the pharmacy service to vascular surgery CSU Be or become a knowledge expert in clinical pharmacy relating to Specialist Surgery, including prescribing, screening, advising and optimising medicines use in the area Promote, monitor and improve the safe and cost-effective use of medicines within the Specialist Surgery directorate Have delegated responsibility for specific aspects of the pharmacy service within the Specialist Surgery pharmacy team as agreed with the Directorate and Divisional Lead Pharmacists Support and deputise for the Highly Advanced Pharmacist for Specialist Surgery/Ophthalmology in the provision of a safe, effective and efficient clinical pharmacy service Routinely review, update or develop Specialist Surgery related guidelines and shared care protocols Support and mentor junior pharmacists in the team, ensuring they have education and training relevant to their development, regular one to ones and appraisals. Provide cross-cover to Ophthalmology and other areas within the Specialist Surgery team on a reciprocal basis Provide specialised professional and technical education and training to enable the clinical units to meet high standards of patient care and safety, proactive development of guidelines and patient counselling tools, participation in clinical meetings/teaching sessions Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Qualified to masters degree level (MPharm or equivalent) Registered with General Pharmaceutical Council Post graduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent Independent prescriber or working towards this Leadership qualification or training, or working towards this

Desirable

MSc in clinical pharmacy or equivalent further post graduate qualification Teaching qualification Coaching qualification RPS Credentialing Human Factors Training
