Job summary

The Integrated Local Services Directorate is seeking to appoint a part time Clinical Fellow or Specialist Clinical Fellow in Palliative Medicine. Dependent on candidate experience (please consult both job descriptions and person specifications for further information).

Applications are open to persons interested in Less than full time working ( WTE).

The palliative care service at Guy's and St Thomas' has a strong record of high quality clinical care, service innovation and quality improvement. We work closely with colleagues in our King's Health Partners' Palliative Care Clinical Academic Group and the post holder will have the opportunity to engage with our portfolio of education and research.

Main duties of the job

This post is within the multidisciplinary palliative care and end of life care service which manages patients within hospital advisory services, community teams and outpatient clinics. The post holder will, with support from the relevant Consultants and wider team, contribute to the delivery of palliative care principally via our community based palliative care service, with the potential for working in-reach into the hospital service. The post-holder will be supported to develop clinical and strategic links with community and hospital colleagues in all relevant specialties to support the delivery of high quality palliative and end of life care.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

GMC Registration / Eligible for GMC registration MB BS (or equivalent)

Desirable

Diploma in palliative medicine or other relevant specialty Advanced communication skills training MRCP, MRCGP, FRCA or equivalent

Clinical Governance: Research, QI, Audit

Essential

Evidence of contribution to effective clinical Audit/Quality Improvement(QI) work Understanding of clinical risk management

Desirable

Evidence of original peer-reviewed research Experience in clinical guideline development

Teaching skills & experience

Essential

Experience of teaching and training undergraduates and postgraduates

Desirable

Evidence of having designed, organised and delivered teaching

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

Competent to work without direct supervision where appropriate Experience of working as an effective member of a multi-professional team Clear, logical thinking showing an analytical/scientific approach Shows knowledge of evidence-informed practice Practices a holistic approach to patient care

Desirable

An understanding of the issues and challenges relevant to provision of specialist palliative care in hospital, at home, in care homes. Evidence of contributing to standard setting / policy making Understanding of NHS, clinical governance & resource constraints and relevance to palliative and end of life care

Clinical experience

Essential

At least four years post graduate experience. With ideally experience across one of these services: palliative care / general medicine / care of the elderly /general practice / oncology / haematology. Ability to take independent clinical decisions when necessary and to seek advice from senior doctors as appropriate.

Desirable

Experience in chairing/leading Multi-disciplinary Meetings Experience of participating in a Palliative Care on call rota Knowledge, skills and experience of managing common palliative care emergencies independently with remote senior support as required.
