Job summary

Rheumatology Services at MYTT (MidYorkshire Teaching NHS Trust) is entering an exciting period of clinicalworkforce expansion in all grades and roles. This is a new post having theopportunity to join and develop the existing Rheumatology Consultants team witha specific remit to further transform and extend Rheumatology services.

We are looking for a dynamic, creative,and motivated Consultant to join our friendly progressive team. The successfulcandidate will be joining an established team of 7 consultants to work inoutpatient clinics and inpatient acute referrals as well as having ourdedicated Rheumatology Ultrasound Diagnostic Service.

This post is toprovide additional capacity for our expanding service, and it is expected thatapplicants will have undergone specialist training in Rheumatology medicine.Most importantly you must be driven and have a desire to provide an exemplaryservice with our patients at its heart. As a forward thinking trust we arecontinually striving to deliver clinical excellence to our patients.

We are developingour GIM (General Internal Medicine) workforce in line with the shape of trainingdevelopment and those consultants that join our trust that are dual accreditedin GIM will be asked to take part in GIM ward cover on a 1:8-week rota. For the GIM week, the mornings will be a wardround and the afternoons will be free for other specialty work.

Main duties of the job

Duties will bebased primarily on our Wakefield (Pinderfields) or Dewsbury sites, although allour medical staff are involved in delivering care to patients on all our sites(including Pontefract). The main duties of the post will include

Provision of a generalrheumatology service together with other consultant colleagues within thedepartment. A specialist interest that complements those within the departmentwill be encouraged.

Our Rheumatologyservice provides care to patients within Wakefield and North Kirklees, we providedover 13,000 outpatient and diagnostic appointments last year.

Within the job plan forthis position are up to PA of DCC to General Internal Medicine (GIM), whichis to enable the successful applicant to be part of the team deliveringinpatient care to general medical inpatients.

The new department ofGIM, within the Specialty and Integrated Medicine Clinical Service Unit, willbe staffed by 15 dual-accredited physicians from Group 1 specialties. Theseconsultants will work a consultant of the week model of care on a one-in-eightrota, providing a daily consultant ward round (4-hour duration). The ward will have 2 consultantseach week doing a daily ward round, the consultants will change every week. Wardis based on one site.

Time in lieu after theweek will be offered but not mandated and we have a mixture of people thateither do or do not take time off after the weekend, which is job planned aszero hours day.

This is a brand-newservice and will provide exciting opportunities for successful candidates tomeet and work with colleagues from allied specialties, be involved in servicedevelopment and quality improvement, as well as gain useful leadership andmanagement experience.

The GIM PAs incolleagues job plans will be reviewed after two years in post, with thelikelihood (subject to individual wishes and confirmation with your linemanager) of this activity being passed on as new Group 1 specialty consultantsare appointed to the organisation, allowing incumbents to return that time totheir department and allow them to further develop their parent specialtyinterests. We make a commitment that nolonger than 3 years will be needed to be provided in GIM, but we are hopefulthat some colleagues will continue to partake in this rota in the in the longterm.

Supporting professionalactivities in accordance with the trust framework, with at least aminimum of SPAs (supporting professional activities) included in the core10PA timetable, Additional SPA (supporting professional activities) or DCC timemay be commissioned in line with the skills of the successful candidate and thechanging requirements of the service.

Examples may includeformal teaching responsibilities or departmental leadership roles.

All consultantsat the trust are provided with secretarial support and an adequately equippedoffice, which includes IT (Information Technology) facilities.
