What to expect

We at Choose Therapy believe in the power of counselling. In order to make counselling more accessible to everyone we decided to create a counselling placement that is purely online. Many clients as well as counsellors appreciate the additional flexibility and convenience that comes with conducting counselling sessions online.

The BACP allows trainee counsellors to conduct half of their training hours online. However, please check with your training organisation about their unique requirements for your particular course before making your application.

The placement at Choose Therapy offers a lot of flexibility and autonomy that will prepare you for your work as a counsellor in private practice. Unlike many other counselling placements we allow our counsellors to decide for themselves when they would like to see clients, and only at times that suit them, they will be available for client bookings.

Additionally we do not allocate clients to counsellor but let clients decide for themselves who they would like to work with. Clients are able to book their preferred counsellor via our online booking portal.

We offer counselling placements to trainees who practice various of therapeutic modalities.

We provide free fortnightly supervision, with various supervision groups being available (also in the evenings).

What We expect

Counsellors/therapists need to be able to offer 4 client hours a week and be available for regularly scheduled fortnightly supervision, for a minimum of 50 hour sessions.

To have completed some counselling placement hours with clients already (therapists with prior counselling placement experience are preferred), or be able to provide a letter of readiness from your training institution.

We require students to have had at least 30 hours of personal therapy with a qualified therapist before they apply, and to be willing to continue in personal therapy for the duration of the counselling placement.

Be based in the UK, and plan to remain based in the UK for the duration of the counselling placement.

To have appropriate counselling insurance in place and be a member of a professional counselling body.

Be willing to complete a DBS check with Choose Therapy’s selected DBS provider.

We work via online video conferencing. We therefore require a half day of CPD on working online to be completed by counsellors during the onboarding period before beginning their counselling placement with us.

After successful completion of your counselling placement at Choose Therapy you might be offered a position at our premium service Select Therapy.
