Job summary

Join Our Dynamic Team: Lead the Future of Prevention and Management of Aggression Training

The Prevention and Management of Aggression (PMA) Team trains over 5,000 staff. We have two dedicated training venues across Norfolk and Suffolk to deliver this highly specialised training.

We're looking for an experienced leader and manager with a strong background in training and education.

You will need to have extensive experience in leading on and delivering a Bild accredited Restrictive Interventions (Restraint) training program.

We would like our PMA Lead Practitioner to:

Deliver Excellence - Lead the PMA team to provide high-quality training that exceeds statutory regulations and national best practice standards.

Collaborate - Work with stakeholders to enhance safety for staff and service users.

Drive Accreditation - Oversea the completion of our Bild accreditation and ensure the Trusts compliance with the Restraint Reduction Network Standards and Mental Health Units (Use of Force) Act 2018.

Innovate with Data - Use analytical skills to present impactful data to drive change.

Travel - You will be required to travel across Norfolk and Suffolk to deliver training and attend clinical venues to support NSFT's shared vision.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

Develop and lead PMA training programmes within NSFT to meet the needs of the service that are based on national standards and guidance related to the delivery of PMA training. Fully participate in the development or trial of new clinical service innovations, which are evidence based. Observe the requirements of the code of practice Mental Health Act 2007 and embed them in training delivery. Maintain own expert status by developing training and improvement projects underpinned by research and legislation, participation in research as required and directed by the Professional Lead for StatMand Training. Provide expertise, support and advice to clinical practitioners regarding PMA interventions and techniques. Work alongside service managers and team leaders to identify emerging trends and areas for development within teams related to PMA and risk by means of qualitative audit. Provide clinical input into the Trust's mandatory training programme, linking training into practice and practice into the current training provided. Provide expert advice, support and information to the organisation relating to PMA. Interpret national guidelines and inform local policies and procedures to achieve best practice. Report to the Professional Lead for StatMand Training to review, analyse and audit training and to discuss emerging national trends in relation to PMA.

The current Job Description is undergoing a review.

The post holder will be responsible for:

Clinical Outcomes

1. Leadership in Staff Training:

Provide expert advice and leadership to clinical staff on the prevention and management of aggression throughout the Trust.

Dedicate 25% to 50% of time to teaching within the PMA training department.

2. Collaboration and Partnerships:

Establish partnerships and networks with key stakeholders.

Engage service users, staff, and other interested parties in discussions on PMA training delivery strategies.

3. Continuous Learning and Best Practices:

Maintain, pursue and receive training to stay updated on trends and best practices.

Participate in clinical audit, research initiatives, quality assurance, and clinical governance.

4. Service Evaluation, Policy Development and Strategy Development:

Develop and participate in reviews of Trust-wide policies and protocols relating to or linked to PMA.

Lead and participate in projects to develop and maintain high-quality PMA interventions.

Lead/support service evaluation and audit systems to plan training improvements.

5. Training Delivery and Quality Assurance:

Facilitate training delivery.

Ensure PMA training aligns with national guidance and best practices.

Develop strategies to embed policies and training in the Trust's culture.

Provide specialist support services to clinical areas.

Line management and clinical leadership of team members.

Manage day-to-day operational/clinical issues.

Oversee effective use of the delegated budget.

2. Staff Development and Recruitment:

Manage CPD, performance management, appraisals, and HR processes for identified staff.

Ensure professional practice and adherence to Codes of Practice/Conduct and Trust policies.

Participate in supervision and meet with relevant managers to identify and address needs or emerging trends.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

RMN or equivalent professional qualification or Degree level qualification or equivalent in PMA.

Desirable

Study experience at Masters level. First aid at work. Hold a current recognised teaching qualification.

Experience

Essential

Extensive experience of delivering training, including PMA.

Desirable

Experience of both inpatient and community care. Involvement in audit and or clinical reviews.

Skills

Essential

Effective communication, presentation and group management skills. Ability to problem solve and make decisions. Ability to prioritise and delegate tasks appropriately.

Desirable

Able to demonstrate leadership skills including resilience and evidence of change management.

Knowledge

Essential

Up to date knowledge of PMA National Standards/Guidance and best practice. Knowledge of psychomotor skills of self and others. Understanding of Mental Health issues in relation to PMA.

Desirable

An understanding of the policies and guidelines both local and national that can affect all staff and PMA.

Other

Essential

Ability to travel to all Trust locations. Undertake ongoing professional development.
