An exciting opportunity has become available for a Full-time Band 7 Advanced Mental Health Practitioner/Supervisor to join the CAMHS Mental Health Support Team 1, based in Slough. 

 The Slough MHST provide assessments and short-term, evidence-based therapeutic interventions to young people in Slough with mild to moderate mental health needs. Clinicians working for the MHST service will promote the emotional wellbeing and mental health of young people in educational settings. They will offer advice, information and support to young people and families, and consultation and training to professionals, as appropriate. You may provide outreach support to promote engagement, where needed. You will lead the Slough MHST and work closely with your Slough Getting Help Team colleagues and the Slough MHST/Getting Help Team Lead to provide mental health consultations and advice to partner agencies, including the Slough Early Help team, Youth Offending Teams and CAMHS pathways.

 This is a unique opportunity to be part of and contribute to a creative, supportive, and innovative service. This is an important post at the interface with education settings, partner agencies and specialist CAMHS. The Mental Health Support Team sits alongside the Getting Help Team in Slough. Operational management and clinical supervision will be provided within Berkshire Healthcare CAMHS.

Main duties of the job

Clinical assessments for young people up to the age of 18 years, presenting with mild to moderate mental health problems. Short-term, evidence-based therapeutic interventions (individual, group, family, as appropriate)  To offer training and consultation to external agencies with regards to the mental health presentation of children and young people who are accessing the Getting Help Team.  Ensuring liaison and joint working between the Getting Help / MHST and the locality Early Help Hub and specialist CAMHS services.  Use of routine outcome measures to promote active participation from young people and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions. Our service hours are Monday- Friday 9am-5pm which is the typical working pattern of the teams, but we can be agile in accommodating flexible working, where needed, the teams work within a hybrid model of face-to-face work and working from home.

Person specification

Education/Qualifications/Training

Essential criteria

Appropriate qualification as either a Clinical/Counselling/Educational Psychologist (Doctoral) level training and relevant UK Professional Registration (HCPC/BPS). Or as a Systemic Family Psychotherapist (MA/MSc qualification with full registration as a Systemic Psychotherapist with UKCP) Or appropriate qualification at Band 7 level for example, Mental Health Nurse, CBT Therapist, or Social Worker. Or an Accredited Counsellor (BACP/ NCS/ equivalent) with a specialism or master’s degree.

Desirable criteria

Supervision qualification, or willingness to undertake supervision training. Or CYP IAPT Training CBT, Systemic Family Therapy, Attachment based training Interpersonal Therapy [IPT].

Continuous Professional Development

Essential criteria

Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the relevant professional body.

Previous Experience

Essential criteria

Post qualifying experience or equivalent experience working with children and young people in the field of mental health. Experience of working with evidence based approaches in mental health. Good level knowledge of the theory and practice of psychological interventions. An enthusiasm for using Routine Outcome Measures. Experience of formulation, assessment and treatment when working with children, young people, and their parents, presenting with a range of mental health difficulties and challenging behaviour. Experience of multidisciplinary and multiagency working eg: with local authorities, education settings and other community services. Experience of providing a culturally sensitive service. Experience in managing child protection concerns.

Experience of providing supervision. Experience of providing training Experience of running / corunning groups.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria

Knowledge and understanding of child and adolescent mental health difficulties, their assessment, and current evidence-based intervention strategies. An ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to convey highly complex and clinically sensitive information to family members of all ages, pupil/students and to a wide range of professional people. An awareness of current issues in service delivery within community CAMHS and other settings and an ability to contribute to service development. Ability to work autonomously, managing and planning own workload. High level skills in working with professional networks and the ability to advocate for and advance the mental health needs of parents and their children. Ability to form excellent working relationships with colleagues and work flexibly with others in multidisciplinary and multi-agency settings. Skills in providing consultation and support regarding mental health issues to other professionals. Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice. Ability to manage/supervise clinical staff An awareness of relevant legislation and its implications for clinical practice. Knowledge and understanding of issues relating to safeguarding children (child protection policies and procedures), integrated working and ISA (information sharing and assessment) procedures.
