About the Role

As a Specialist Biomedical Scientist, you will play acrucial role in the daily operations of the Cellular Pathology department. Youwill be responsible for performing a wide range of laboratory techniques,ensuring the accuracy and quality of results that are integral to patient care.This position offers a considerable degree of autonomy, allowing you to workindependently and make significant contributions to the team.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities Include:

Routine Operations: Perform laboratory techniques in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures, ensuring accurate and timely diagnostic work. Quality Assurance: Assist in the production, maintenance, and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures, ensuring compliance with ISO 15189 standards. Participate in quality control procedures, risk assessments, audits, and promote lean working practices. Human Resource Management: Play a key role in training and developing junior staff, including Trainee Biomedical Scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants. Assist in the creation of personal development plans, and support the continuous professional development (CPD) of the team. Scientific and Diagnostic Duties: Conduct maintenance procedures and advanced troubleshooting on complex equipment. Prioritize workflows and ensure efficient stock control, maintaining a cost-effective service. Communication and Collaboration: Maintain regular communication with the laboratory team, Departmental Manager, and Senior Biomedical Scientists. Participate in meetings and training sessions, ensuring effective dissemination of information and continuous improvement. Infection Control: Adhere to Trust infection prevention and control policies, ensuring compliance with all health and safety regulations.

We are looking for a motivated individual with a strong commitment to excellence in diagnostic services. The ideal candidate will have:

A degree in Biomedical Science or a related field, with registration as a Biomedical Scientist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Proven experience in a Cellular Pathology laboratory, with a solid understanding of the relevant techniques and methodologies. Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. A proactive approach to personal and professional development, with a commitment to maintaining an up-to-date knowledge base and engaging in CPD activities. An understanding of quality management systems, including the implementation and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures.
