Overview

Experience the diverse landscapes and rich cultural heritage of Scotland while fullfilling your role as an IT and Webcasting Officer for the Planning and Environmental Appeals Division.

The Planning and Environmental Appeals Division decide or make recommendations for Scottish Ministers on a range of planning and environmental appeals and other cases and is part of the Scottish Government Legal Directorate.

You will work with another IT and Webcasting Supporting Officer to provide IT and administrative support of various DPEA (Development Planning and Enviromental Appeals) systems to staff and stakeholders. You will also be responsible for the set-up, running and recording of live and virtual events, using portable webcasting kit as required.

This post will involve handling of specialised/heavy equipment as an essential part of the role. Will also involve extensive travel throughout Scotland several times a year and will require overnight stays, which may be more than one consecutive night.

Expenses/accommodation costs incurred while carrying out this aspect of the role will be met in line with Scottish Government policy. Full training and support will be provided to you.

Responsibilities

• As required transport, set up, operate webcasting and public announcement equipment, providing onsite support at hearing and inquiries. This may require sequential overnight stays throughout Scotland.
• Assist, advise and action all aspects of virtual meetings, for both internal and external events.
• Responsible for communicating changes and news using a variety of methods including Web publisher, My Gov, letter templates, forms, Connect Web space, user guidance and other systems/documentation as instructed.
• Provide statistical data and reports for monthly management reports, annual review, parliamentary questions, FOI requests, and any other queries relating to DPEA.
• Provide first contact support to staff including home-based reporters, casework staff and members of the public on IT related issues. Ability to research, investigate, work on own initiative and as part of a team to resolve issues.
• Provide support to team IT projects to enhance IT systems such as documenting discussions at meetings and assisting in developing training and guidance for the division for the case management system.
• As required, carry out finance duties to meet business needs within DPEA, such as the purchase of equipment and raising purchase orders.

Essential Criteria & Qualifications

Full Driving licence will be required to transport webcasting equipment to various locations throughout Scotland to webcast hearing and inquiries as part of an open and transparent decision-making process.

2. Ability to work on own initiative, excellent organisational skills, prioritising workload including the ability to work within tight and challenging deadlines to handle competing priorities to deliver a range of tasks within strict deadlines.

3. Ability to work effectively as part of a team to meet challenging demands. Ability to build positive working relationships with staff across all grades and with a range of stakeholders.

4. Strong verbal and written communication skills with confidence to challenge, when appropriate.
