Dar is seeking to recruit a Head of the Transportation Unit to work in its London design office. Though the post is based in London, there will be opportunities for travel and work outside the UK. The candidate is likely to have a minimum of 20 years’ experience in a multi-disciplinary design and consultancy environment.

The role will involve:

  • Managing the transportation department’s workload of mainly international projects, predominately within the Middle East and Africa;
  • Preparation of commercial bid proposals and tenders;
  • Acting as project manager for projects led by the Department, or as Group Leader coordinating the Transportation Team inputs for projects led by other disciplines;
  • Maintaining liaison and providing technical support to other Departments, Area Offices, and Project Sites, as required;
  • Interacting with the Client representatives through meetings and presentations to represent the Company’s interests;
  • Ensuring the Company’s Quality Assurance system is applied at all times;
  • Monitoring work and outputs produced by the Transportation Team and external specialized subcontractors;
  • Coordinating project details with Senior Directors;
  • Overseeing deliverables and ensuring that they are submitted on time, on budget, and to the highest quality;
  • Managing day-to-day operations of the Department including allocating resources, approving leave, signing off expenses, approving travel, and so forth;
  • Occasionally, actively participating in projects as a technical expert.

Candidates should have:

  • A 3-year degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of experience and education; MSc. or higher is an advantage;
  • Demonstrated experience in managing projects and resources, and people;
  • Experience of working in different operational environments, especially in less-developed and emerging nations;
  • Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills;
  • Fluent written and spoken English, with good report writing abilities; knowledge of a second language would be a bonus;
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines.
