Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to work within the Milton Keynes Early Intervention in Psychosis Team (EIPT). This post offers the post holder an excellent opportunity to develop specialist knowledge, skills and experience for Psychosis across the continuum. Your role in the EIPT is to provide evidence-based psychological interventions for individuals experiencing First Episode Psychosis (FEP). You will have access to relevant training in specialist psychological assessment and treatment. There will be opportunities to develop the psychological knowledge of the MDT and facilitate reflective practice groups. You will deliver psychological interventions informed by case formulation to individuals with first episode psychosis and comorbid problems. You will provide services that meet the agreed service priorities and national standards. This may include group work, service evaluation, consultation, and supervision of team members in psycho-social interventions.

The Early Intervention in Psychosis Team in Milton Keynes works within the Community Mental Health services in Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust (CNWL). It is a service that provides early detection, assessment and intervention for 14-65-year olds who are experiencing a first episode of psychosis. The service aims to provide evidence-based treatments in order to reduce the impact of Psychosis for the individual and their families.

Main duties of the job

The EIPT is commissioned to provide and facilitate access to comprehensive, evidence-based interventions under the Care Programme Approach (CPA) and non-CPA to clients aged between 14-65 who are experiencing or recovering from a first episode of psychosis.

N/A - Care Programme Approach (CPA) is going to be soon replaced by DIALOG+ (flexible/personalised/safety planning care/collaborative working - what matters to the patient), latest end of July 2024. Training is provided to facilitate a smooth transition.

The service endeavours to engage with individuals for up to three years and will prioritise strategies to provide an environment that promotes user involvement and recovery. The EIPT has close links to organisations including Primary Care, Community Mental Health Services, Children & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), and Inpatient wards, Schools etc.

The service is committed to ensure the professional development of its staff, which is evident from the ongoing specialist and general CPD sessions run by the teams. There will also be opportunities to conduct research and access external trainings, conferences and workshops. There is an established network of Psychologists within Milton Keynes, which provides fantastic opportunities for networking and wider professional support. This includes a monthly Psychology Forum where Psychologists and Psychological Therapists from different specialties meet for an internal CPD.

Job responsibilities

To ensure the systematic provision of high-quality specialist psychological interventions to service users of the Early Intervention in Psychosis team. To provide specialist psychological assessment and therapy in line with Government targets and NICE guidance. In addition, the post holder will offer supervision, advice, consultation and training on service users psychological care and treatment to other team members and non-professionals. To work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the services policies and procedures. To utilise research skills for audit, policy development and, service evaluation and development within the team and service.

Valid UK driving license and a car owner is essential

Ongoing training opportunities maybe available within the service

Milton Keynes EIPT has close links with other EIPTs within CNWL NHS Trust and across the East of England Region. For applicants who are keen in wider professional development such as teaching, supervising and conducting research, there will also be such opportunities available as we have established links with the Oxford Doctorate in Clinical Psychology course.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Post-graduate training that allows one to be registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). This may be a Clinical, Counselling, Forensic or Health psychologist. Or The post holder will be a BABCP accredited CBT with relevant post-graduate training. Car driver with ability and willingness to travel to locations throughout Milton Keynes and CNWL NHS Foundation Trust organisation This post will require flexibility in the face of change and the ability to contain and adapt to new ways of working. The post requires an energetic ,enthusiastic and highly motivated individual who is self driven and able to meet targets. The post holder will have a strong interest or skills in working with Psychosis.

Experience

Essential

Experience of specialist psychological assessment, formulation and treatment. Experience of working with services users who experience psychosis or complex presentations. Experience of teaching, training, consultation and supervision. Experience of working in an NHS community mental health settings in secondary and tertiary care Experience of working in MDT settings in particular the demonstrated ability to work jointly in assessment interventions with multidisciplinary team members Experience of working with people who have complex mental health problems Experience of work with care-givers/families. Maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse. Experience of working within a multicultural framework. Experience in the use of risk assessment and the management of risk and crisis.

Desirable

Experience in CBT for psychosis. Experience of systemic approaches and Behavioural Family Therapy Interventions/ Experience of skills in group work Experience of working with first episodes of psychosis.
