Job Advert Role Description

Priory Hospital East Midlands currently is comprised of three wards:

Sapphire Ward – a female psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU)

Quartz Ward - An acute ward for female patients 

Opal Ward - An acute ward for female patients 

All Three wards offer assessment and treatment to females with a broad range of mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, stress, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), schizophrenia and personality disorders.

Opal Ward is our newest ward which opened in June 2024 and is home to our sensory room to support patients to regulate emotions, for relaxation and to support with sensory processing disorders, disabilities and cognitive conditions. 

This service is dedicated to providing innovative, high quality care, which will enable patients’ recovery and re-engagement with the community.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Occupational Therapy Assistant to work within our Therapy team, providing assistance to professional and clinical staff with the planning, implementation and evaluation of the therapy and care plans in order to support the mental, emotional, physical and social well-being of patients in our care, whilst upholding Priory Values. Working alongside the Occupational Therapist and other members of the multidisciplinary team to identify patients Occupational needs and supporting patients to engage in Self-care, productive and recreational groups. 

Part of your core responsibilities will include : 

- Effectively and accurately update clinical record as directed by the Occupational Therapist in a timely manner. 

- Record and report patients involvement in 1:1's and group activities - Ensuring any unusual physical, mental and emotional occurrences are promptly reported to a senior staff member. 

- Having compassion for the people we care for and their situation. 

- Being proactive, enthusiastic and encouraging to staff and patients to join in with groups and activities. 

- Support with the development and creation of activity timetables 

- Propose new ideas to further enhance patients experience using feedback gained through OT sessions and community meetings. 

- Working with patients to increase their sense of purpose and value through life skills and other sessions.
