Job Summary: As a SEN Teaching Assistant, your primary role will be to provide tailored assistance to help these students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities for SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Offer individualized or small group assistance to students with special educational needs.
  • Aid in the creation and execution of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Work closely with teachers and the SENCO to support students’ educational strategies.
  • Assist classroom teachers in managing student behavior and fostering a positive learning environment.
  • Support students in their academic, social, and emotional growth.
  • Track and document student progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents.

Requirements for SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • A teaching assistant qualification (e.g., CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ) is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Prior experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant or in a similar capacity.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Capability to collaborate effectively within a team.
  • Patience, empathy, and a sincere passion for working with children with special needs.
  • Have an updated CV (covering last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
